WNBA and Fever superstar guard Caitlin Clark is more than just a basketball player. She is a natural-born athlete, and one of her other talents involves golf.
Clark is one of the better basketball players who plays golf. Although that is the case, there is a reason why she isn't a pro, and that wasn't more evident than her appearance at the pro-am at The Annika, an LPGA tournament in Tampa, Florida, on Wednesday morning.
Clark was seen teeing up on the ninth hole, par 3, and delivered a souvenir to one of the spectators close by. The ball landed outside of the ropes, soaring left, and even clipped a fan. However, it was the fan's lucky day as Clark autographed the ball for the spectator and apologized, saying, "Thanks for the good kick, whoever I hit," according to Golfweek.
Here's how the incident went down.
Clark teed off early Wednesday and spent the front nine with world No. 1 Nelly Korda.
Korda told the Associated Press that she was impressed with what she saw of Clark in the front nine.
"It was great to see how relaxed she was," Korda said. "Obviously with the media attention she has gotten probably in the past year-and-a-half, two years, you can see how she's comfortable playing in front of a larger crowd. And she was just really enjoying it. You can tell.
"She's definitely very talented. She was picking the ball really clean. She was losing a couple shots to the right, but I asked her how many times a week she plays and I think with the amount of obligations she has she probably gets to the golf course once a week."
Prior to her tee time on Wednesday, Clark told the media that she was afraid of hitting someone.
"I'm going to hit some good, I'm going to hit some bad," Clark said. "Just going to try not to hit anyone standing outside of the ropes. But it'll be fun."
Clark also described herself as an "average" player with a 16 handicap.
"I've tried to take as much time as I can to practice, but there is only so much hope. You just cross your fingers, pray," she said. "No, I've practiced a little bit and I just had the quote about becoming a professional golfer. Everybody thought I was serious. I was not serious. I love it. I love being outside and making it competitive with my friends."
Clark is coming off a tremendous rookie season in the WNBA, during which she made the All-Star team and won Rookie of the Year.
