It is well-known at this point that WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark is a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs -- and she is not just some new "convert" to Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Andy Reid's methods. Clark, a native of Des Moines, Iowa, has been a Chiefs fan for her entire life -- and as the Chiefs hosted the Houston Texans in an AFC divisional round playoff game on Saturday, two of Clark's biggest passions collided for the first time.
That's because Clark was able to take in a victory for her beloved Chiefs while she was seated alongside pop superstar Taylor Swift, who has long been Clark's favorite artist. Swift, her lengthy Eras Tour concluded at last, returned to her habitual place in boyfriend Kelce's suite in Kansas City, and she spent much of the Chiefs' 23-14 win chatting and cheering with Clark -- whose long-held dream was finally realized.

Fans recall Clark's humility over meeting Swift
Before she entered the WNBA as the top overall selection in the 2024 draft, Clark played for the University of Iowa -- where she led the unfancied Hawkeyes to consecutive national championship game appearances and set a new NCAA record for points scored in a career by a male or female basketball player. Back in 2023, Clark's national profile was still on the rise, and she perhaps lacked the cache she has now. In an interview conducted at that time, Clark recalled nearly meeting Swift at a Chiefs game -- but she just couldn't make her way over to the "Lavender Haze" singer.
"She's a couple suites away from me but I didn't meet her," Clark told reporters. "She's above my level, so..."
How things change in a little more than a year. Clark spent much of Saturday's game seated to Swift's left, a demonstration of how much Clark's fame grew in 2024 -- when she broke the collegiate scoring record and claimed Rookie of the Year honors after helping the Indiana Fever return to the WNBA playoffs for the first time since 2016.
With the Chiefs set to host either the Baltimore Ravens or the Buffalo Bills in the conference championship game next Sunday, there may yet be another chance for Clark to chat with her musical idol, as two titans of American culture collide to kick off 2025 amidst Kansas City's pursuit of a third successive Super Bowl title.
