"Why would he even text that?"
Cam’ron recently made a revelation about his 2019 onstage reunion with JAY-Z, sharing details about an unexpected “weird” text conversation they had afterward.
On an episode of his new YouTube show Talk With Flee, the Dipset vet revisited the night he hit the stage with Hov during the Roc Nation founder’s B-Sides 2 concert. Fans were ecstatic to see the two perform “Welcome to New York City,” signifying that they’d buried their issues stemming from their fallout in the 2000s.
However, what happened behind the scenes that night had Cam scratching his head.
“After the show, JAY hit me up like: ‘Yo, that was dope last night,'” to which Cam responded: “That was really dope, I appreciate you guys putting this sh*t to bed and let’s rock out.’” The “Hey Ma” rapper added, “He was like, ‘Yeah, man. See how much sh*t we can do when ni**as stop acting like there’s fake beef out here. That sh*t slows sh*t down.’”
Cam admitted the message left him befuddled. “I didn’t know what to make of it,” he admitted. “I was like, ‘Why would he even text that?’ But I still gave him his props. I told him, ‘No matter what, you, Dame, and Biggs gave me a chance to feed my family legally, so I’ve got no problem with it. But inside, I’m like, ‘Why would he even text that?’ I don’t know. Even to this day, I don’t have no problem but I thought that was weird.”
Despite the “weird” vibes, Cam insisted there’s no lingering drama with him and Jay—but they haven’t crossed paths since then. “I haven’t seen or spoken to Hov since then,” he said. “I respect what he’s doing business-wise, and I respect his music. Are we good? I hope we’re good! But if we don’t speak, it’s not gonna change what I got going on.”
As for whether fans can expect another collab from the former Roc-A-Fella labelmates—probably not. “I’m not really doing music full-time, and obviously, he’s not either,” Cam explained. “So, that’s not on my radar, but I respect everything he’s got going on.”
The relationship between JAY-Z and Cam’ron has been a rollercoaster over the years.
Their feud was most famously aired out in diss tracks like Cam’s 2006 song “You Gotta Love It,” where he accused Hov of biting Biggie’s style. Hov seemingly responded on Drake’s 2013 song “Pound Cake,” where he rapped: “I done made more millionaires than the lotto did/ … Cam made millions, Beans would tell you if he wasn’t in his feelings.”
Cam fired back in the same year on “Come and Talk to Me,” rapping, “Jay made you a millionaire? Nah, we made each other millions, that was my reply / had a mill before I met him, baby, that ain’t no lie.”
Although their history is complicated, their 2019 reunion gave fans hope that their past issues are water under the bridge. For now, the two are doing their own thing in their own lanes, while keeping the peace from a distance.
