Cameron Diaz gives rare insight into her marriage with Benji Madden

Cameron Diaz is giving fans a rare glimpse into her personal life after spending years away from the spotlight. The 52-year-old actress, who shares two children with her husband Benji Madden, has always lived a private life, but in an interview with her brother-in-law, she got candid.

Diaz and Benji will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary in just a few weeks on January 5. While on brother-in-law Joel Madden’s Artist Friendly podcast, she shared how much her family depends on therapy. “Therapy is a big thing in our family,” the 52-year-old revealed—a sentiment Joel, who has been married to Nicole Richie since 2010, could relate to.

For Diaz, couples therapy is a way to continuously strengthen their relationship and commitment with the help of a professional third party. “To not do the same thing over and over again… but to figure out what went wrong, how to make it work, and what each person’s role is in improving things," she explained. 

Diaz highlighted the necessity of both partners giving their all every day, saying, “You can’t be in a marriage and have a family if both people are not 100 percent every day. Even if you’re mad at each other or sick of each other, it’s still 100 percent commitment.”

Diaz famously came out of retirement after nearly a decade with encouragement from her husband, for her Netflix movie Back in Action, starring Jamie Foxx, set to premiere on January 17. She must have enjoyed being back on set because she is currently filming Jonah Hill’s dark comedy Outcome with Keanu Reeves.

Still, her love for Benji and their family remains her priority, and Joel loves having her as a sister-in-law. In a touching moment, Joel told Cameron that as a brother, her marrying Benji was “the best thing that ever happened to him.” "It’s the thing that I’m most grateful for in my life, is our marriage and our family. Period. That’s it,” she responded.
