In an interview with Nylon, Cabello discussed the song "June Gloom," which many fans think is inspired by the love triangle. “I wrote ‘June Gloom’ after I had hung out with [the song’s subject],” she said.

“I went into the studio the next day and said, ‘Jasper, can you play me some beats?’ He was like, ‘This one, this one,’ and he skipped over ‘June Gloom.’ I was like, ‘Oh wait! Go back!’”

Cabello shared that she told her producers to leave the studio to have the necessary space to write about topics she didn't want to write about while there were others in the room with her. “When I know I’m about to be intimate, I don’t want anybody [there]," she said.

"I wrote it so fast because to me, everything is so personal.”

Mendes and Cabello's complicated relationship

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have known each other throughout most of their lives. Despite their ups and downs, it seems like the two hold each other in high esteem.

In an appearance on Jay Shetty's podcast, Mendes revealed that the public eye is difficult to deal with, particularly when discussing his public breakup with Cabello. "Honestly, I think Camila and I have just done the best job at preserving our private little fire of love for each other," he said.

"Because no matter how strong mentally you are, when there are millions of people commenting on it, it's so hard not to be affected by it, and to be swayed by it, and to be inspired by it, and to desire it."

"This is not a movie," he continued. "This is real life. This is real love, and love is confusing and hard and goes through dips, goes through pauses, goes through breaks."
