Celebrities Mourn the Death of Legendary Producer Quincy Jones

Celebrities are mourning the death of Quincy Jones, who passed away on Sunday at 91 years old.

“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing,” a statement from Jones’ family reads. “And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”

Jones' many accolades include 28 Grammy Awards, two honorary Academy Awards, and an Emmy for Roots. During his tenure, he worked with almost every type of American musician imaginable, from jazz greats like Dizzy Gillespie and Duke Ellington to rappers like Snoop Dogg, LL Cool J, and Queen Latifah, and singers like Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Chaka Khan.

Many of those artists paid tribute to the legendary music producer following his passing. Check out some of the tributes below.

Will Smith

Will Smith, who worked with Jones on the hit TV show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, called Jones "a mentor, a father, and a friend" in a touching Instagram post.

LL Cool J

LL Cool J similarly thanked Jones, sharing that the late music exec gave him "opportunities" and "wisdom." LL continued, "Music would not be music without you."

Lionel Richie

Lionel Richie, who wrote and sang on Jones' charity single, "We Are the World" remarked that he and Jones had a "great ride" together.

Elton John

Elton John took to IG to comment on just how "incredible" Jones' career was.

Justin Timberlake

In a lengthy note, Justin Timberlake thanked Jones for guiding him, as well as being a "presence" and spending "time talking about music and life."

Dr. Dre

Dr. Dre revealed that Jones was "the reason why I decided to become a record producer." Back in 2015, Jones appeared on Dre's Beats 1 Radio show, The Pharmacy.

Ice-T

Ice-T, who appeared on Jones' 1989 Grammy-winning album, Back on the Block took to IG to call the 91-year-old a "genius."

Lenny Kravitz

It seems Lenny Kravitz and Jones had a close bond, with Kravitz thanking Jones for his "openness" and "friendship."

The Weeknd

The Weeknd showed gratitude for Jones, sharing that the music exec was "the reason" Abel Tesfaye pursued a music career.

Tyler, the Creator

Tyler, the Creator wished Jones "safe travels" following his passing.

John Legend

John Legend and Jones were collaborators and friends. "Beyond all his accomplishments, anyone who knows Q will talk about the JOY he brought to every room," Legend wrote. "He was the life of the party, so charming and full of light."

Kelly Rowland

Kelly Rowland showed her love for Jones and thanked him for being a "wonderful teacher."

Al Sharpton

Al Sharpton noted that Jones' "transformative influence will live on."

Katie Couric echoed others' sentiments, dubbing Jones "one of the greats."
