Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day: Bill Murray and Harold Ramis
The word is out. Bill Murray and his late Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day collaborator Harold Ramis were not quite the chummiest of chums.
At least not after the latter, that is.
Groundhog Day's producer, Trevor Albert, revealed in 2023 how the two maintained a conflict during the making of the film, which ultimately led them to not speak a word to each other for 21 years.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Albert admitted "[Groundhog Day] was a tense shoot for a number of reasons," going on to cite multiple conflicts between the pair.
Murray and Ramis had starred together in Ghostbusters almost 10 years prior, and collaborated on their hit film Caddyshack, which is why Murray was one of the first names the director thought of to take the lead in his comedy.
But at the time of filming, Murray was not in the best way, which led him to slip professionally. Per an explosive 2004 interview with Ramis in The New Yorker, the director revealed: "At times, Bill was just really irrationally mean and unavailable; he was constantly late on set."
"What I'd want to say to him is just what we tell our children: 'You don't have to throw tantrums to get what you want. Just say what you want.'"
Tensions grew, and so filming became like scraping nails on a chalkboard.
"It was unfortunate and probably made the movie considerably less fun to make," Albert said. "But you can still make a very good movie when people are not in perfect harmony."

After their falling out on Groundhog Day, an icy rift developed between Murray and Ramis, who, indeed, did not speak to each other for 21 years.
Friends of both stars claim their falling out was due to Murray growing tired of the claim that Ramis was responsible for his career.
Sadly, it was illness that brought to two together, after Ramis' struggle with Autoimmune Inflammatory Vasculitis disease turned dire.
Murray was reportedly pushed by his brother to visit Ramis in the hospital, and the two finally spoke.
When Ramis died on February 24, 2014, Murray released a short tribute: "Harold Ramis and I together did the National Lampoon Show off Broadway, Meatballs, Stripes, Caddyshack, Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day. He earned his keep on this planet. God bless him."
The actor later made another sweet, improvised tribute to Ramis before presenting the award for Best Cinematography in a Major Motion Picture at the 2014 Oscars.
In a 2009 interview with The AV Club, Ramis reflected on his relationship with Murray.
"I could help him be the best funny Bill Murray he could be, and I think he appreciated that then. And I don't know where that went, but it's there on film. So whatever happens between us in the future, at least we have those expressions."

Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel
Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Vin Diesel have been co-stars since their first onscreen appearance together in 2011's Fast Five.
Playing on-screen enemies, their relationship in real life quickly became similar.
Whether the duo ever got along is unclear, but from 2016, we knew they weren't chummy.
In a since-deleted Instagram post, Johnson made a dig at an unnamed member of the franchise cast.
"Some [male co-stars] conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don't," Johnson wrote, starting the public feud.
"The ones that don't are too chicken s—t to do anything about it anyway.
"Candy asses. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I'm not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling – you're right."
Per US Weekly, Johnson also posted a follow-up post to Instagram.
"Family is gonna have differences of opinion and fundamental core beliefs," he wrote.
"To me, conflict can be a good thing, when it's followed by great resolution. I was raised on healthy conflict and welcome it. And like any family, we get better from it."

Thankfully, the beef seemed to subside, with Johnson telling the Los Angeles Times that while his disagreement with his co-star wasn't ideal, it bolstered the film franchise.
"I've been in the game a long time," he said of the conflict. "Would Universal have preferred that didn't happen? Sure, we talked about it. The irony is after that and as they do their tracking and all their analysis, the interest shot through the roof to a whole other level," Johnson said.
Diesel then told USA Today the situation had been blown out of proportion, and the duo were friends off-screen.
"I don't think the world really realises how close we are, in a weird way," Diesel explained ahead of The Fate of the Furious' release.
"I think some things may be blown out of proportion. I don't think that was his intention. I know he appreciates how much I work this franchise. In my house, he's Uncle Dwayne."
The duo later appeared together at The Fate of the Furious' premiere in April 2017, with Diesel telling Entertainment Tonight: "We still love each other, that's my boy. When I was making that difficult decision, should there be an 8 or not, I called [Johnson] and he said, 'Brother, I will be there shoulder to shoulder with you to make sure it's the best movie in history.' And he delivered."

Thirteen: Evan Rachel Wood and Nikki Reed
Actress Nikki Reed has spoken openly about her years-long feud with Thirteen co-star Evan Rachel Wood.
The pair starred in the controversial coming-of-age movie in 2003, and years later Reed shared her thoughts about what transpired on set.
Speaking on the Story + Rain Talks podcast, she said she and Wood would have had no issues had it not been for the studio encouraging them to be competitive.
The film, which also starred Holly Hunter, followed the lives of Evie (Reed) and Tracy (Wood) as they experimented with drugs and explored their sexuality.
"We were too young to realise this at the time, but there were a lot of people that were kind of pitting us against each other, and making it a competitive atmosphere," Reed said of the movie, which they filmed when they were both 15.
"Now, in hindsight, I'm like, 'Of course, because isn't that the recipe for how [to] treat all young women in this industry?'"

It wasn't until her early 20s that Reed reached out to Wood. And after two hours of "vomiting up all of our feelings and emotions", they are now great friends who speak daily.
"We really connected the dots and moved past it in that one sit-down. She and I are so close now," Reed said.
In the podcast, Reed – who went on to star in the Twilight franchise – also revealed they now speak daily and had bonded over being mothers.
Reed shares two children with The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder, while Wood has a son with her ex-husband, Billy Elliot star Jamie Bell.

Moonlighting: Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd
Everyone who has watched Moonlighting knows David Addison (Bruce Willis) and Maddie Hayes (Cybill Shepherd) were the OG will-they-won't-they TV couple. Everyone wanted them to get together.
But in real life, Willis and Shepherd hated each other.
Crew members had to "measure the distance between their two trailer doors to the stage entrance, so one actor wouldn't have to walk even a foot farther than the other," according to a colleague.
The show may have ended in 1989, but Willis and Shepherd's feud has endured through the decades since.

Moonlighting: Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd
In 2022, Shepherd opened up about her first impressions of Willis following his family's announcement he would be retiring from acting due to his aphasia diagnosis.
"I just have to say one thing about Bruce," she told Extra in May 2022.
"No one else was ever considered for the part when he walked in the room. My temperature went up 10 degrees.
"That meant two things to me: one, I was very attracted to him, two, I would never act on it, 'cause we were both very attracted to each other."
Shepherd then shared that she "will always love Bruce."

Gilmore Girls: Lauren Graham and Scott Patterson
Gilmore Girls brought us the perfect slow burn with Lorelai and Luke – but actors Lauren Graham and Scott Patterson were not friends.
"It's fine," Graham told TV Guide of her chemistry with Patterson, which is never a fun way to describe something.
"I think these characters have great chemistry and that does mirror our chemistry as people. We're not intimates."
When asked if they were "best friends" the actress answered simply, "No."

Law & Order: SVU: Christopher Meloni and Ice-T
Christopher Meloni and Ice-T addressed their apparent "ongoing feud", which reportedly flared up in 2023 due to Meloni's return to Law & Order: SVU.
Meloni returned to the SVU universe after a 10-year break in the spin-off series Law & Order: Organized Crime, reprising his role as Detective Elliot Stabler.
Meantime, Ice-T has continued to portray his original role of NYPD Detective Odafin Tutuola since 2000 in the original series.
Thanks to US newspaper The National Enquirer, which claimed Ice-T was "envious of the attention Mr Meloni has received since coming back", the pair were driven to address the claims.
"So…[Ice-T] was sent this," Meloni tweeted, along with a screenshot of an email from The National Enquirer.
"He was kind enough to let me know we were feuding."

The email to Ice-T read:
"To whom it may concern,
"The National ENQUIRER is preparing to publish a story reporting actors Ice-T and Christopher Meloni are feuding since the latter's return to the franchise.
"Sources told The ENQUIRER that the former rapper has grown envious of the attention that Mr. Meloni has received since coming back."
It ended, "If you have any comment on the article, please respond directly to this email..."
Replying to Meloni's tweet, Ice-T wrote, "LOL... Clownass MFs.. Chris is my MF man! F'em They just make BS up. Crazy."

The former rapper then tweeted the email of his own accord, writing, "Just sent this email over to my guy @Chris_Meloni Clownass MFs trying to make up Drama outta thin air... WOW... MFs are really on that BS."
SVU-slash-Organized Crime fans will be happy to hear the air is clear and all is good between the two.

Star Trek: George Takei and William Shatner
It looks like the co-star bond between Star Trek alums George Takei and William Shatner certainly did not live long and prosper.
Takei, 87, had a few choice words about his former colleague Shatner, 93, during a heated interview with The Guardian.
The actor, who starred as Sulu alongside Shatner's Captain Kirk in the '60s series, said everyone usually got along on the set of Star Trek – "except for one, who was a prima donna".
When asked if he was referring to Shatner, Takei bluntly admitted "none of us" liked the veteran actor.
"I know he came to London to promote his book and talked about me wanting publicity by using his name. So I decided I don't need his name to get publicity. I have much more substantial subject matter that I want to get publicity for, so I'm not going to refer to Bill in this interview at all," Takei told the publication in November 2022.
"Although I just did. He's just a cantankerous old man and I'm going to leave him to his devices. I'm not going to play his game."
He added: "He was self-involved. He enjoyed being the centre of attention. He wanted everyone to kowtow to him."
Earlier that month, Shatner also took the liberty of speaking similarly scathingly about his former co-star in an interview with The Times.
Shatner said he was "astonished" that cast members still had gripes 60 years later.
"Don't you think that's a little weird? It's like a sickness," Shatner told the newspaper, adding that Takei had "never stopped blackening my name".
Shatner and Takei worked together on the original Star Trek from 1966 until 1969.

Drake & Josh: Josh Peck and Drake Bell
Josh Peck (left) and Drake Bell played stepbrothers in the Nickelodeon series Drake & Josh, appearing in the sitcom from 2004 to 2007.
When the series wrapped the pair reportedly lost touch, so when Peck didn't invite Bell to his wedding in 2017, he thought nothing of it. But it seems Bell was upset over the snub and sent his former co-star angry text messages on the night of his wedding, in which Bell was allegedly "cursing" and "coming" at Peck for not being invited.
"It's delusional because it is like, 'Bro, it is like we worked at Coffee Bean together when we were 16. I am sorry that I am 31 now and I might have lost your number,'" Peck said in the BFFs with Dave Portnoy and Josh Richards podcast, which was published in March 2022.
Peck then said the pair cleared the air at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2017. The 37-year-old actor said on the podcast that they ran into each other and he made Bell apologise, Sopranos-style, to his wife Paige.
"I go up to him, and this might be the most Sopranos thing I have ever done, I look at him and I go, 'Go apologise to my wife right now,'" he recalled. "He made a beeline for my wife and I see him do a whole five-minute performance of an apology."
This little anecdote only infuriated Bell, 37, because apparently it never happened, said his wife Janet Von Schmeling.
"I stay quiet until lies happen. And … the fact that I was there at the VMAs, I was next to Drake. I was the one who told him Josh was coming [up to us]. I was there, heard it all," Janet claimed in a since-deleted Instagram Story.
"Drake was never threatened by Josh …. that's actually hilarious. Bro, you're not tough. Also, yea, Drake apologised to your wife because you asked him nicely to. We actually hung out after that. Multiple times. We talked multiple times since then. You're a f---ing liar. A f---ing liar, Josh."

The Vampire Diaries: Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley
The Vampire Diaries stars Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley had steamy on-air chemistry when they played Elena and Stefan, but off-air they pretty much hated each other for a while.
"Nina is my really good friend now, we talk all the time and it's true. When we first started shooting The Vampire Diaries, we totally clashed. We didn't [get along]. Creatively, it just wasn't in sync," the actor told Entertainment Tonight.
"We're basically driving each other insane and then after a few seasons, we developed this absolute mutual love."
It was Dobrev who first revealed the pair didn't see eye-to-eye when filming the teen drama, saying in June 2019 that the pair actually "despised" each other.
"Paul and I didn't get along at the beginning of the show. We despised each other so much, that it read as love," Dobrev said on the Directionally Challenged podcast.
"We really just didn't get along the first maybe five months of shooting."
Thankfully, they smoothed things over and are now pals!

Charmed: Alyssa Milano and Rose McGowan
While they may have gotten along while filming Charmed, Rose McGowan and Alyssa Milano are not friends now.
In December 2017, McGowan slammed her former co-star for voicing support for Georgina Chapman – Harvey Weinstein's estranged wife.
McGowan accused the film producer of rape. Weinstein has denied all allegations of non-consexual sex.
Milano and McGowan's feud is not the only one to happen between former Charmed co-stars.
In fact, the feuds among Milano, McGowan, Shannen Doherty and Holly Marie Combs are quite complicated.
