Chappell Roan Set to Perform at Elton John’s Academy Awards Viewing Party

Chappell Roan is booked and busy on Oscar weekend.

The Midwest Princess — coming off of a banner breakout year with hits like “Pink Pony Club” and “Good Luck, Babe!” and viral performances (including Saturday Night Live, the MTV Music Video Awards and numerous festivals) — is set to take the stage at the 33rd Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards viewing party in West Hollywood on March 2.

Hosted by Elton John and David Furnish, the fundraiser for the Elton John AIDS Foundation is one of Oscar weekend’s highest-profile events. This year’s will be co-hosted by Jean Smart, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka.

“David and I are thrilled to gather with friends and supporters once again, and we’re honored to welcome the bold and authentic Chappell Roan as this year’s performer, whose artistry embodies the power of music to inspire change,” said John in a statement, adding that music has “always been a force for change, uniting communities, raising awareness and inspiring hope” in the fight against AIDS.

Offered Furnish: “The Academy Awards viewing party is a night to celebrate the power of bold storytelling while raising funds for HIV/AIDS care and prevention. It’s about uniting to stand against stigma and champion equal access to care.”

The news comes as Roan is nominated for six Grammy Awards at the upcoming telecast, including best new artist, record and song of the year for “Good Luck, Babe!”, best pop solo performance for the same track, and album and best pop vocal album for The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.

Megan Thee Stallion, Hozier, Sharon Stone, Sean Penn, Mick Jagger and Jeffrey Wright are on the host committee for the viewing party. Presenting sponsors include A+E Networks, Chopard, e.l.f. Beauty, Gilead Sciences, Robert and Dana Kraft, and Bob and Tamar Manoukian. The program also features co-sponsors include Judy and Leonard Lauder, official airline partner American Airlines, wine partner DAOU Vineyards, spirits partner Tequila Don Julio and the City of West Hollywood.
