"Nobody has had honest conversations about Donald Trump since 2016."
Charlamagne Tha God has an issue with CNN’s Donald Trump coverage and called the network out for it. CTG paid a visit to CNN for an interview on Anderson Cooper‘s AC360 on Thursday (Oct. 24). The two men discussed the forthcoming political showdown between Vice President and Trump and the difference in how networks have covered the candidates. One of the clips that has gone viral sees CTG agreeing with Kamala Harris’ angle to call Trump “a fascist.”
Cooper attempts to redirect the conversation to Trump’s plan to appear on Joe Rogan Experience and asks if Harris should do the same. However, The Breakfast Club host wasn’t going for the redirect and bigged up Harris for her current gameplan, including calling Trump a fascist. He then called out Cooper and CNN for not doing more to call out Trump for “what he is.”
“I think that she should keep calling Donald Trump a fascist,” Charlamagne said. “And I think that Americans need to keep looking at the rhetoric of Donald Trump because I don’t know why we’re even thinking about electing somebody who’s talking about putting people in camps. I don’t know why we’re talking, why we want to elect somebody who’s talking about mass deportation.”
“I don’t know why we’re having this conversation about somebody who wants to terminate the constitution to overthrow the results of an election. Aren’t we supposed to be a patriotic country? Whenever somebody like Colin Kaepernick takes a knee in this country, everybody talks about, ‘Oh, that’s so unpatriotic.’ But a guy can say he wants to terminate the Constitution to overthrow the results of an election, and nobody cares? Now, you brought it back to Kamala and Joe Rogan, Anderson, who gives a damn?”
Cooper, shocked by Charlamagne’s assertion, once again attempts to make a connection of Trump possibly appearing on Rogan’s show. The political journalist opined that his appearance on the show could have a profound impact on the election. Yet, Charlamagne remained steadfast in his takedown of CNN, stating that Trump “being a fascist” is far more important.
“[This former] president is a fascist, that’s talking about putting people in camps, that’s talking about, once again, terminating the constitution to overthrow the results of an election. That’s talking about jailing his political opponents. That rhetoric doesn’t scare people?”
Cooper shot back, arguing that CNN has talked at length about Trump practicing fascism. He argued that plenty of anchors have been honest about the former president, saying, “I don’t think y’all have enough conversations about it.”
Charlamagne then replied, “I feel like I heard more on this network about ‘Is Kamala Harris Black?’ than I do about Donald Trump being a fascist. Am I wrong?”
“That’s bullsh*t,” Anderson Cooper shot back with a smirk. “I’m sorry, I’m a huge fan of yours. But to say that we’re sitting around discussing ‘Is Kamala Harris Black?'” CTG didn’t let this comment fly before offering his own rebuttal, saying, “That’s bullsh*t, Anderson, for you to say that y’all don’t have those conversations.”
“I think no network has been honest about Donald Trump. Nobody has had honest conversations about Donald Trump since 2016. I saw last night they were talking about, you know, the double standard that exists between Donald Trump and the vice president. But it’s always a double standard with Trump, whether it’s with Hillary, whether it’s, you know, against Biden. Now, with Kamala, we talk about [Trump] being a threat to democracy, but we don’t treat him like one.”
