Liam Payne was given a heartbreaking send-off yesterday, with his ex-partner Cheryl Tweedy pledging one last promise to their son's father.
The former Girls Aloud star was among the mourners including Liam's One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan at St Mary's Church in Amersham, Buckinghamshire for the final farewell to the singer who met a tragic end after falling from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires on October 16.
Cheryl stood alongside her Girls Aloud band members Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh, as well as Liam's bereaved parents Geoff and Karen Payne and his sisters Ruth and Nicola.
The funeral, which Cheryl had a hand in organising, saw Liam's family seeking a dignified and "perfect" tribute.
Dressed in a £2,000 Liberowe wool coat with velvet trim, Cheryl concealed her anguish behind designer sunglasses. She is reported to be "devastated" by Liam's passing and made a poignant commitment to him regarding their seven year old son, Bear, reports the Mirror.
Speaking to MailOnline, a friend revealed the singer has made a heartfelt promise that their child will always remember his father. This pledge was underscored by the emotional scenes witnessed yesterday when Liam's coffin, adorned with two floral tributes, arrived at the Home Counties church in a horse-drawn carriage.
Among the flowers was a touching message from Bear, with white blooms spelling out "Daddy".
Friends of the singer shared with the news outlet that Cheryl is "dreadfully sad" and continued: "She has her own grief, but she also has a little boy who won't see his daddy again, and that is just heartbreaking," they expressed. The source noted that despite Cheryl and Liam parting ways in 2018 after a two-year relationship, they remained "bonded" through their shared love for their son.
Cheryl paid homage to her late ex-partner on Instagram, confronting the harsh reality that she must "face the reality of never seeing his father again". In a black and white photo showing Payne in bed with his son, Cheryl wrote: "As I try to navigate this earth shattering event, and work through my own grief at this indescribably painful time, I'd like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being."
"Liam was not only a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our 7 year old son. A son that now has to face the reality of never seeing his father again."
The former lovebirds seemed to be on amicable terms at the time of Liam's passing, with the Teardrops crooner consistently lauding his ex-partner for being the "best mum in the world" and enabling him to chase his musical dreams while balancing fatherhood duties. Liam's farewell ceremony was also graced by his girlfriend at the time of his demise, Kate Cassidy, who he dated since 2022.

Kate had travelled with Liam to Buenos Aires in October. However, she wasn't present during his tragic end as she had returned to Miami just four days prior.
She expressed her sorrow following his death and revealed to fans that she and Liam had plans to tie the knot in the near future. Celebrities like Simon Cowell, James Corden, and Adrian Chiles were among the attendees at Liam's funeral.
While it was initially anticipated that Liam's service would take place in his birthplace of Wolverhampton, a source disclosed that it was decided to hold it in Buckinghamshire as it is where he, Cheryl, and Bear had made their home and "put their roots down".
