Initially, the trade was for Hopkins to be sent to the Chiefs and the Titans receiving a conditional fifth-round pick. Now, the entire details of the trade have been revealed.

DeAndre Hopkins is making about $13.7 million this year, but the majority of it was paid already. With Tennessee paying out a $2.5 million signing bonus as part of the trade, the #Chiefs will have Hopkins for the last 11 games (plus playoffs) for about $3.2M. https://t.co/m0i9oB2GV2

Hopkins was set to make a $2.5 million signing bonus, which is set to be paid by the Titans. The rest of his $13.7 million payment has also been taken care of.

The biggest detail of this trade is that the conditional fifth-round pick will become a fourth-round pick if Hopkins plays 60 percent of his snaps as a member of the Chiefs, and if Kansas City makes it to a third Super Bowl.

Both appear to be very possible, and the latter is becoming far more likely with the Chiefs continuing to win games. They remain the only undefeated team in the NFL with a 6-0 record.

Adding Hopkins is giving Patrick Mahomes a big weapon. Despite Hopkins being older and a more seasoned veteran, he is still one of the better wide receivers in the league.

With Levis being up and down this season, Hopkins has only managed 173 yards and one touchdown through six games. However, this is not indicative of his skill set.

In 2023, Hopkins ended the season with 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns.

Hopkins can jump up for contested balls and can also create separation, which is what Mahomes needs. The Chiefs lost Marquise "Hollywood" Brown to a sternoclavicular injury before the season began.

Star running back Isiah Pacheco also suffered a fractured fibula and has been out for weeks, however, he is slated for a return very soon.

Rashee Rice also suffered an LCL injury and had season-ending surgery to repair the damage. With Rice and Brown out, the Chiefs have been left with Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, and Juju Smith-Schuster.

The issue is Smith-Schuster attempted to suit up for Week 7, but he has been dealing with a nagging hamstring injury, that has already led to his being ruled out for Week 8.

With a severely depleted wide receiver corps, the Chiefs needed to sign a proven veteran. They have done so by bringing in Hopkins.

Time will tell if Hopkins will be ready to go for Week 8. Either way, the Chiefs just acquired a huge pass-catching weapon for Mahomes. Expect the pair to link up plenty for the remainder of the 2024 NFL season.
