Chiefs Sign Kicker After Harrison Butker Replacement is Placed on IR

7 hours ago 3

Despite having a first-place 11-1 record in the AFC, the Kansas City Chiefs have been dealing with injuries on both sides of the ball. The biggest concern has been with the team's special teams, as they are now on their third kicker.

Longtime kicker Harrison Butker was placed on IR after it was revealed he would undergo a meniscus trim. A trim takes far less to heal from compared to a full repair, which would have sidelined Butker for the remainder of the 2024 season.

Following Butker being placed on IR, the Chiefs signed Spencer Shrader from the New York Jets practice squad. Shrader knocked in the game-winning field goal when the Chiefs beat the Carolina Panthers in Week 12.

Now, Shrader has also been placed on IR, resulting in the Chiefs having to sign a third kicker.

Shrader suffered a right hamstring injury and will now be placed on IR. To make up for losing Shrader, the Chiefs have signed Wright to the active roster.

Wright hit 4-of-5 field goals during Friday's victory against the Las Vegas Raiders. His lone miss came from 59 yards.
