The Kansas City Chiefs entered their game on Sunday with the San Francisco 49ers hoping to get a big win. They would do just that by taking down the 49ers with a final score of 28-18.

The Chiefs were also down some important players on the day, as wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster exited the game with a hamstring injury. This was the same hamstring injury that kept him limited through practice all week, which appears to have been re-aggravated.

To make matters worse, the Chiefs also lost one of their budding stars, as cornerback Jaylen Watson has suffered a fractured ankle. Watson was knocked out of the game and had to be carted off the field. He would reemerge on the sideline in a cast and crutches.

With more tests done, Watson might be out for the remainder of the 2024 season.

According to Ian Rapoport, "Chiefs CB Jaylen Watson, one of their emerging young players on defense, suffered a fractured ankle in Sunday's win over the 49ers, sources say. He'll have more imaging done today to determine if a return this season is possible. But tough reality for an up-and-coming corner."

Watson has a fractured ankle, which could sideline him for the rest of the season. This is a devastating loss for the Chiefs, as Watson had emerged as a solid starter in the secondary next to fellow cornerback Trent McDuffie.

Naturally, more tests will be done to determine the severity of the damage to Watson's ankle, but the outlook thus far does not look that promising. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke to reporters after the game and stated, "I don't think that's going to be great news."

This Chiefs team remains the only undefeated team in the NFL, posting a 6-0 record. Many believed they were due for a loss, as all of their victories have been very close games. However, on Sunday, they showed why they remain the clear favorite for another Super Bowl victory.

Should the Chiefs make it to the Super Bowl and win, they would become the first team to secure three consecutive championships. Sunday's game was a Super Bowl rematch from last year, but the game proved that Kansas City is lightyears beyond the 49ers right now.

Despite losing Smith-Schuster and Watson, the Chiefs managed to adapt to the situation and put together an impressive performance. This is even after Patrick Mahomes threw two interceptions.
