Coleen Rooney is reportedly deeply concerned for her husband Wayne following his dismissal from Plymouth Argyle. Wayne, 39, was relieved of his duties as head coach, a role that earned him £500,000 annually, just seven months after his appointment in May.

The team's performance proved disappointing with Wayne at the helm, with their League Table position plummetting - and they secured only four Championship victories throughout the season. The news of his sacking is said to have been delivered via a phone call after 9.30am on New Year's Eve.

According to reports, friends say he was "gutted" but accepted the decision as inevitable. I'm A Celebrity star Coleen had been rooting for his success, understanding his deep love for football, and is thought to be devastated too.

A source told the Daily Mail: "On the outside, life for the Rooneys is all fancy restaurants, vodka cocktails and expensive clothes, but actually football is so important to Wayne. It keeps him busy. She worries about him, and football keeps him out of trouble."

However, the couple faced another setback earlier this week when a video of a woman entering his Salcombe residence - which he shares with assistant Plymouth coach Pete Shuttleworth - went viral. The alleged video appears to show Wayne welcoming the woman before later cutting to him standing in front of a TV, reports the Mirror.

The video has reportedly incensed both Wayne and Coleen. In response, Wayne took to Instagram to vehemently deny any wrongdoing, stating: "The video shows a man and woman looking around my apartment. The couple kindly gave me a lift home and were in there at the same time as my son who was visiting."

A representative stated that the video in question is actually from last summer, adding: "It is annoying that at least one online newspaper has chosen to edit the footage to make it appear as though a woman entered the apartment on her own. That is simply not true."

Meanwhile, although the former Manchester United star was also set to feature in a lucrative documentary series, it is now likely to focus on his life after being sacked from his job as Plymouth Argyle manager.

A source added: "Part of the charm of the show [would be] Wayne's successes as a manager, but now it seems he will be getting under her feet rather than being a football coach."

Plymouth's dismal run of form, including a 2-0 loss to Oxford United, has left them at the bottom of the league table, four points from safety.

Wayne isn't the only person to have been dismissed, as Assistant Head Coach Mike Phelan and first team coach Simon Ireland are both leaving too.

A statement from the club read: "First team coach Kevin Nancekivell and Club Captain Joe Edwards will oversee the team for our Sky Bet Championship match against Bristol City on New Year's Day. Daryl Flahavan will continue in his role as Goalkeeping coach. We express our gratitude to Wayne and his team for their efforts and extend our best wishes for their future endeavours."

Under Wayne's leadership, the team suffered several crushing defeats, and his tenure began with a 4-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday.

Following the additional 6-1 defeat against Norwich, Wayne sharply criticised his Plymouth team, exclaiming: "We were nowhere near good enough – we are down to the bare bones with injuries but that is no excuse.

"If players want to come in the team and stay in the team, then they need to perform better than that. I could probably put the under-18 team out there and they wouldn't concede six goals, so I'm very disappointed, angry, frustrated and the next 24-48 hours are not going to be very nice for the players... we need to really get to the bottom of why this is happening."
