Commanders' Jayden Daniels 'Likely' to Play in Showdown With Caleb Williams

2 months ago 7

The Washington Commanders will have starting quarterback Jayden Daniels on the field for Week 8 when they take on the Chicago Bears. It was a little touch and go throughout the week but Daniels will likely suit up.

Backup Marcus Mariota played the majority of the Commanders' game last week after Daniels first suffered his injury.

Since Daniels will play, this game becomes magnified as a matchup between the No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks from the 2024 NFL Draft. Both players are going to want to put on a show and prove why the other should be viewed more highly.

Daniels has taken the league by storm so far throughout his career, helping the Commanders to become a dominant offensive team. His dual-threat abilities have been on full display and it has helped to unlock the Washington offensive attack.

The rookie has been working to get onto the field as he recognizes the magnitude of this matchup. He knows that all eyes will be on him as he faces off against Williams for the first time.

"He'd want to play if he were missing his right leg," the team official told ESPN.

Daniels is as competitive of a player as any in the NFL and it shows in how he plays the game. He uses his legs to kill defenses but can also throw darts down the field to close out teams.

On the year, he has thrown for 1,410 yards with six touchdown passes and two interceptions. Additionally, on the ground, he has rushed for 372 yards and four scores.

Washington sits with a record of 5-2 for the year, in large part due to the play of Daniels. He hasn't looked like a rookie and it has vaulted the Commanders to the top of the NFC East.

The former LSU product is looking to lead the Commanders to the playoffs and he is on track to do so. Getting a win over the Bears would be huge, especially considering that Chicago has started to play better of late, sitting with a record of 4-2.

The two rookie quarterbacks have been the talk of the league since they were drafted and they now will get to be on full display. Each one brings their own flare to the table, potentially giving fans a great first matchup.

Daniels being in this game changes the chances for Washington and the Commanders are happy to have their leader on the field.
