2 months ago 8

When the Washington Commanders take on the Chicago Bears this weekend, they may be forced to do so without star rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels for the game. He has been dealing with an injury and seems to be a game-time decision for Sunday.

NFL insider Mike Garafolo provided the news on social media.

#Commanders QB Jayden Daniels was limited today, per Dan Quinn. Sounds like it'll be a game-day decision on his availability vs. the #Bears.

Losing Daniels for this game could be tough for the Commanders, especially considering that he has been one of the best surprises this season. The No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft has taken the league by storm and has the Commanders believing that they can make the postseason.

Daniels has shown off his dual-threat abilities all season long and it has helped Washington out immensely on the field. He has thrown for 1,410 yards with six touchdown passes and two interceptions.

On the ground, he has rushed for 372 yards and four scores. His ability to take off with the ball gives this Commanders' offense another level and they have been dominant due to it.

Commanders head coach Dan Quinn provided an update on his star quarterback. However, it seems like Daniels could be in jeopardy of missing this game.

"We will assess how he responds to the work that we did over the next 48 hours. But we really pushed it today."

Daniels missing this game would force fans to wait to see a matchup between the No. 1 and No. 2 picks from this year's NFL Draft. The Bears took quarterback Caleb Williams ahead of Daniels and the two players have been lighting the league up this season.

If Daniels can't go in this contest, backup Marcus Mariota will take over. He played in the blowout win last week against the Carolina Panthers and looked good.

Mariota threw for 205 yards with two touchdowns. He also rushed for 34 on the ground to help out his cause.

"We've seen him play; I know he's a great player," Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner said of Mariota. "I know all he does is prepare and wait for his opportunity and that's what happened. He took advantage of the opportunity and played the game that we see him play all the time."

Washington sits with a record of 5-2 on the season and will be looking to continue their winning ways. If Daniels does have to miss time, they are confident in Mariota to lead them to the win at home this week.
