Commanders vs. Eagles Player Props: How to Bet NFC East Clash on TNF

1 month ago 2

The running joke over the years is that the NFL schedules the worst games specifically for Thursday Night Football, but that is absolutely not the case with this matchup.

Tonight, the 7-3 Washington Commanders travel to Philadelphia to take on the 7-2 Eagles. The winner of this game will be the NFC East leader, at least after 11 weeks of football.

Of course, the Week 11 leader is not guaranteed to win the division, but there is no denying that this is a massive game for both teams.

The Eagles are 3.5 point favorites, but, for this article, we will be detailing our best NFL player prop picks for Commanders vs. Eagles.

A.J. Brown Anytime TD (+130) FanDuel

This is admittedly a tough game to know what to expect from these defenses. Both of these teams are on a roll, but they have done it on the back of relatively soft schedules.

For example, the Commanders had the worst defensive EPA (expected points added) per play through four games this year, but since then, they have the seventh-best defensive EPA per play.

With that said, the Commanders have consistently struggled against the opponent's No. 1 WR.

According to DVOA, the Commanders are the fourth-worst defense at covering the opposing offense's No. 1 WR, and they have also allowed the fourth-most receiving yards to No. 1 options.

In Weeks 1, 2 and 3, we saw Mike Evans, Ja'Marr Chase and Malik Nabers blow up against the Commanders. Even if you look at the games since then, Washington has still struggled against top receivers.

In a game where the Commanders blew out the Cardinals 42-14, Marvin Harrison Jr., the Cardinals top receiver, scored a touchdown.

In the Ravens game, the Commanders allowed 30 points, and Zay Flowers had nine receptions for 132 yards.

Then, last week we saw the Steelers put up 28 points and their top receiving option, George Pickens, had a good game with five receptions for 91 yards and one touchdown.

As for Brown, he has not scored in three straight games, but he left one game at halftime. In the other two games, he had 84 and 109 receiving yards, so it is not as though he has been ineffective.

So, after scoring in his first three games this and not scoring in his last three, now is the time to buy in on A.J. Brown's Anytime Touchdown prop.

Jayden Daniels Anytime TD (+200) DraftKings

This is similar to the A.J Brown play in that Daniels is on a cold streak in the touchdown department and going up against a defense that has been much better in recent weeks.

The Eagles have played in five games since their bye week, and they have not allowed a single team to get to even 20 points offensively over that stretch. Here are the point totals they've allowed on defense, while keeping in mind that we are taking out two touchdowns that were not scored by the opposing offense:

  • Browns, Week 6: 9 points (0 offensive TDs)
  • Giants, Week 7: 3 points (0 offensive TDs)
  • Bengals, Week 8: 17 points
  • Jaguars, Week 9: 16 points
  • Cowboys (sans Dak Prescott), Week 10: 6 points (0 offensive TDs)

So, that is three games in which the opposing offense did not even score a single TD, but, of course, four of those five opponents are among the worst teams in the NFL.

At the beginning of the season, the Eagles defense really struggled against much better offensive teams like the Packers, Falcons, Saints (before injuries) and the Buccaneers (before injuries to WRs Mike Evans and Chris Godwin).

All that said, the expectation should be that the Commanders, who are second in offensive DVOA, should be able to move the ball against this Eagles defense and score some points.

As for Daniels, he scored a combined four rushing TDs in the Commanders' first four games, but has not scored in the six games since.

However, it is not as though he has stopped using his legs. He has reached 50-plus rushing yards in three of the six games in which he did not score a rushing TD. He only ran for 50 yards or moe once in the first four games, and remember that he scored four combined rushing TDs in those four games.

Just two weeks ago against the Giants, he had five red-zone rushing attempts, but could not come away with a rushing TD.

Last week, the Steelers did a good job bottling up Daniels' legs, but that was the lowest rushing yards and attempts he had in a game (not counting the Panthers game, which he left after suffering a rib injury on the first drive).

So, the guess here is that the Commanders will be able to move the ball on the Eagles, and that we are going to start to see the touchdown luck swing back in Daniels' favor.
