Conor Murray's wife Joanna Cooper found the attention on their relationship a bit strange when they first started dating.

But the high profile couple just go with it because they understand that they are in the public eye.

He also opened up about rooming with messy players while playing for Munster and Ireland and his grooming routine.

Conor told RSVP Magazine: "You kind of get used to that side of things as well. She found it a bit strange at the start when she moved back from London.

"She didn’t really understand how big rugby was in Ireland. It took a bit of getting used to, but I think most of the partners get it in this day and age and it is part and parcel.

"She has got a social media following so we put ourselves in that position as well, we just have to go with it. Whether you like it or not, that is the way it is."

Luckily for Conor, he has never experienced any serious hate on the streets because of his rugby career.

He said: "There is an element of that, but you kind of get used to that criticism.

"You know it is from people who probably don’t know too much about the game and it really only matters what your coaches and your teammates think.

"That sounds cliché, but they are the only opinions that matter. They are the people you are trying to impress and get their approval."

Conor and Joanna are “nesting” ahead of welcoming their first child together next month, and his organisational skills extend to when he is on tour with Ireland and Munster.

She said: "Definitely. The boys love going to reception and getting a key for my room so they can mess it up. They might steal my gear or just turn the place upside down.

"Most of the lads live out of their big gear bags on tour, but I put everything away into the wardrobes and presses."

Who have been the best and worst roommates? "I have roomed with a few Welsh lads on Lions tours and I haven’t seen too much fake tan. That used to be an actual thing that they would wear.

"I shared a room with Keith Earls for like 10 years. He was the best and worst roommate I would say.

"He would be up the walls about games the night before and I would be like, 'Man, just go to sleep. Whatever will happen will happen'. He was a great roommate as well. He would be one of my best mates too.

"It is lucky that you get to spend that much time with someone. We lived together for half the year while playing. We probably see our roommates more than we see our partners."

Conor feels lucky not to have had any career-ending injuries during his incredible career on the pitch.

He said: "It can happen. I have been very fortunate. I had an issue with my neck in 2017 and that was a close call.

"I had to get surgery and it took a long time to come back from. I lost power in my arm and thankfully that resolved itself and I didn’t need to go under the knife. Staying fit is half the battle. I have been very fortunate."

Thérapie Clinic announced Conor as its ambassador for male laser hair removal as more Irish men than ever are getting the treatment and he agrees that the stigma around cosmetic procedures for men has begun to disappear.

He said: "Yes, 100%. I’ve a couple of friends who got hair transplants recently.

"When you look back four or five years ago there would have been slagging, the rugby environment can be tough at times if you’re doing things out of the norm. People don’t really bat an eyelid anymore.

"Rugby is seen as a very masculine sport and tough people play it, but people have become way more open over the last few years. You don’t have to fit a certain mould to be involved."
