After his breakout role in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, Cooper Koch is dreaming big for his next part – and it's quite the iconic one.
At the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles last Saturday, Koch shared with The Hollywood Reporter, “Luca's doing American Psycho, so I think I can do Patrick Bateman,” when asked about his plans following Menendez.
News broke Friday (Oct. 18, 2024) that Luca Guadagnino is close to finalizing a deal to direct a fresh film adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' 1991 novel American Psycho for Lionsgate. The original movie, which hit screens in 2000, featured Christian Bale as Bateman, an investment banker seemingly living a double life as a serial killer.
“I haven't played a serial killer yet so I think I could do it,” Koch added, reflecting on the surge of acting opportunities since his Netflix series debuted. “Things are coming in, things are moving, things are happening, taking meetings, and the needle is threading so we'll see, nothing is locked in or happening yet.”
Guadagnino's latest film, the Amazon feature Challengers, graced theaters this spring. It stars Zendaya, Josh O'Connor, and Mike Faist. Koch couldn't help but gush about it, calling it his favorite movie of the year and playfully adding, “I'm a big gay tennis boy.”
Up next for Guadagnino is Queer, starring Daniel Craig, set to hit theaters on Nov. 27 from A24. The filmmaker is currently putting the finishing touches on After the Hunt, featuring Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield.
Scott Z. Burns is penning the script for the new American Psycho. Produced by Frenesy Films, it's said to be a fresh take on the novel rather than a remake of the first adaptation. Sam Pressman of Pressman Films – whose father, Edward R. Pressman, produced the 2000 movie – is executive producing this new version.
