Coronation fans were saddened to hear the plans to kill of Debbie Webster in the popular ITV soap.
It was announced Debbie, played by Sue Devaney, would be involved in a huge storyline that would eventually lead to the end of her character. The fan-favourite has been on the Cobbles since 1984 as the sister of Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell). She left a year later, but bounced back big time in 2019. While she was not the most liked at first, the owner of the Chariot Square Hotel has become much-loved.
Sue Devaney will tug on heartstrings with a huge performance as her character gets a dementia diagnosis. The plot thickens in 2025 for what's chalked up to be an epic saga that'll leave fans in bits.

A source told the Metro: "It's one of the show's biggest storylines of the year, and a real chance for Sue to finally get her time in the spotlight it will just be devastating for fans that it will effectively be her final storyline."
“There is no doubt in the Corrie family that she will give the performance of a lifetime and make Debbie’s exit one to remember for years.” Reports also hint it will be a long-running storyline, so her exit might not be for a while.

However, this didn't stop fans expressing their angry opinions online, with some begging for her to stay or they'll stop watching. One particularly furious fan took to X to share their thoughts.
They wrote: "“Sue Devaney is a treasure. Debbie is one of the very few characters that are likeable and watchable. Ludicrous decision to write her out.”
Another agreed and added: "“I don’t really watch Coronation Street much now. But when I do have it on, one of the few characters that makes me want to keep watching is Debbie Webster. Actually a crime that she’s leaving in this way.”
A third directly tagged Corrie and said: "you can't kill off Debbie Webster she's great.”
It's not confirmed who will take over the hotel when she leaves, but some fans have been hoping for the return of the legendary Rosie Webster to keep it in the family. A theorist noted: "Hoping that this storyline with Debbie leads to a Webster revival with Rosie and Sophie."
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
