Maureen Lipman is saying goodbye to her character Evelyn Plummer, the long-lost grandmother of Tyrone Dobbs.
She took on the role in 2018, but it was her first time acting in the popular soap opera.
However, her connection to Corrie doesn’t end there as her late husband Jack was a writer on the show.

Childhood
Maureen was born on 10 May 1946, making her 78 years old. She is originally from Hull in East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
She became interested in performing when she was young and began taking part in school productions.
She went on to train at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
Acting career
Maureen got her start in the theatre and made her debut in a stage production of The Knack at the Palace Theatre, Watford.
She landed the role after pretending a documentary producer wanted to follow her finding her first job.
The actress worked in theatre for over fifty years, starring in When We Are Married, My Mother Said I Never Should, Old Money and The Best Man.
Maureen also has an extensive television career and has appeared in ITV’s All at No 20, in the BBC comedy drama Eskimo Day and an episode of Jonathan Creek.
She has also played two characters in Coronation Street. Her first role was as snooty landlady Lillian Spencer for six episodes in 2002. Her character was employed by Fred Elliott to run The Rovers Return Inn.
She returned to the popular soap in August 2018 to star as Evelyn Plummer, the long-lost grandmother of Tyrone Dobbs, played by Alan Halsall. It was confirmed that she would be leaving the soap in early 2025.
Marriage
Maureen was married to dramatist Jack Rosenthal from 1974 until his death in 2004. He was best known for writing 129 early episodes of Coronation Street and over 150 screenplays.
The actress previously opened up about his passing and dealing with grief.
“I found it almost impossible to grieve because my nature is to make people laugh,” she told Prima magazine.
“And then, I'd feel terrible about the fact I didn't look like I was grieving enough.”
Maureen and Jack had two children together, writers Amy and Adam Rosenthal.
Maureen later began dating retired computer expert Guido Castro. The couple were together from 2008 until his death in January 2021.
Guido, who was suffering from Parkinson's disease, passed away after battling Covid-19.
Maureen told the Daily Mail at the time: “He got Covid – it wasn't Covid that killed him but it weakened him terribly,"
“We don't know how he got it or when or if he had it when he got the vaccine,” she added.
