Country music icon and The Whites star Buck White dies at 94 as his daughters pay tribute

Iconic country music star Buck White has died at the age of 94.

White was a star of the successful American country music group The Whites, known for songs including You Put the Blue In Me, which he sung in alongside his daughters Sharon and Cheryl White.

His heartbroken daughters confirmed the sad news of his death on his son-in-law Ricky Skaggs' Facebook page, saying that in his 94 years "he lived a full life and finished well".

The statement was written by White's daughters Sharon, Cheryl, Rosie and Melissa and got thousands of likes and tributes underneath.

They said that not only was he a wonderful musician, but was also "fun-loving and full of mischief".

"The Lord answered our prayers and took our daddy, Buck White, home peacefully this morning at 8:00 a.m," they wrote in the statement.

"We are so thankful for his 94 years on this earth.

Legends of the music world, then and now

"He was a great dad who taught us by example to put Jesus first always. His great loves were the Lord, our mother, his family, and music.

"Most people will remember him not only for being a great musician and entertainer, but also for being fun-loving and full of mischief. He lived a full life and finished well."

Underneath, tributes flowed, with one Facebook user writing: "Sorry to hear.. such a sweet talented man... prayers for the family."

"I remember seeing Buck White and the Down Home Folks many times at festivals growing up. Prayers going up for your entire family RIP Buck," another added.

No official cause of death has been shared for Buck and no funeral details shared as of yet. 

The Whites, hailing from Texas, are members of The Grand Ole Opry and have been since the '80s, which honours country music.

The Whites are an award-winning music group, with two Grammy Award wins under their belt, according to the official Grammy website. 

They took home the coveted award for Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album for Salt of the Earth.

Other songs The Whites are known for include Forever You, Doing it by the Book, He Took Your Place and Keep on the Sunny Side.

They collaborated with musician Ricky Skaggs over the years, his son-in-law.

Nashville's Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum shared a post in honour of the late Buck and said: "His [Buck's] versatility was a key ingredient in his success."
