Couple's Extravagant Gender Reveal Leaves the Internet 'Feeling Poor'

A couple from Florida have become the talk of the internet after their elaborate gender reveal party went viral on Instagram.

Posted by mom-to-be Gema Delgado, the clip shows the 25-year-old and her partner standing either side of a colossal white gift box tied with a large bow. As their 130 guests count down in Spanish (Delgado was born in Cuba and moved to the U.S. when she was two years old), they pull on the bow unveiling a custom-wrapped pink Mercedes G Wagon.

Pink balloons flow out of the box and the sky gets painted pink with fireworks and powder blasters, announcing they are expecting a baby girl. The self-employed research nurse told Newsweek that she wanted to create something that felt personal and special for the big moment.

"The car, which is wrapped in a gender-revealing design, plays a key role in the reveal. We used the color scheme and a special moment to make it extra memorable. It was a vision I had for years, and I'm so happy it came to life," she said.

For Delgado (@gemaadelgado on Instagram), the event was the culmination of meticulous planning with the help of a gender keeper (the only person who knows the gender of the expected baby) to ensure the surprise element for the guests.

The car itself, which seemed to cause confusion among Instagram users, was not a gift, but rather a carefully planned element by Delgado.

"I decided to make this gender reveal extra special by getting it wrapped just before the reveal. The timing, details, and coordination of all the moving pieces made it come together perfectly," she told Newsweek.

The grand reveal collaboration post with event planner Gender Reveal Miami has garnered almost 40 million views and over 10,000 comments.

Many flooded the comments section with love hearts and heart-eye emojis, which could be in response to the dad-to-be's reaction as he holds her from behind by the waist, while Delgado is in tears of joy. "I love how he never lets go of her," one user wrote.

Others speculated about how costly the event was and were curious about what the couple do for a living. One user wrote that they were "feeling poor" after watching the reel, while another joked that single people would cry after seeing it.

Delgado was humbled by the reaction and told Newsweek that it's been overwhelming to see the "positive feedback."

"It was always important to me to create a memorable moment, but I didn't expect it to resonate with so many. I'm so grateful for the support and joy people have shared in this experience," she said.

So far, pregnancy has been a joyful and smooth experience for Delgado. "I've felt incredibly fortunate to have had such an active pregnancy. I honestly don't feel pregnant most of the time, which I'm sure is due to staying active and healthy," she said.
