Craig Melvin has been tapped to replace Hoda Kotb on TODAY. According to Variety, he is set to extend his position with the daily news show as co-host of the program from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m ET alongside Savannah Guthrie.
Previously, Melvin has worked at TODAY gaining more prominent status in 2018 and co-anchoring the 9:00 a.m. hour. Kotb’s last official day on the show will be Friday, Jan. 10, 2025. She first announced she would be stepping away from full-time duties in September, detailing, “I realized it was time for me to turn the page,” after celebrating her 60th birthday.
Additionally, Melvin will continue to co-host the third hour with Al Roker, Dylan Dreyer, and Sheinelle Jones.
“We are beyond thrilled to have Craig step into the co-anchor chair,” detailed Libby Leist, senior vice president of Today in a statement to staff per Variety.
“He’s been an integral and beloved part of our family. From breaking news coverage in the field, to presidential interviews, to multiple Olympics and Super Bowls, Craig’s shown he has the talent and the range to cover all that we do here at Today. And he does it without ever losing that Southern charm.”
NBC News will not announce a replacement for Kotb’s other role, co-anchoring the 10 a.m. hour, with Jenna Bush Hager. Instead, the lifestyle-focused segment will maintain a rotating series of co-hosts, including celebrity guests, rebranding the hour to Today with Jenna and Friends.
