Cynthia Erivo has faced a slight backlash after encouraging Wicked fans to do this rather annoying act when they go to watch the musical in theaters.
Wicked is smashing its way through the box office bringing in historic figures while also delighting fans across the world.
So all in all, that's good.
But boy... Cynthia Erivo’s advice to some of those fans who are still yet to see the flick has got some people up in arms, myself included.
Erivo, who plays Elphaba in the film, spoke during an interview at Thursday’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade broadcast on NBC and spoke directly to fans.
When she was asked about some people singing to the film’s songs in the theater, she gave her OK to do it.
She said: “Good. I’m OK with it. We spent this long singing it ourselves — it’s time for everyone else to join in. It’s wonderful.”
Fellow star Dwayne Johnson has also encouraged fans to sing along in the movie theater for his film, Disney’s Moana 2.
He said: “Sing! You’ve paid your hard-earned money for a ticket, and you’ve gone into a musical, and you’re into it. Sing.”
However, on social media, not everyone is massively in support of this idea.
In response to Erivo’s comments, one fan put it perfectly and simply said: “Nah sorry but shut the f*** up while you are in the theater.”

Another said: “It would be unacceptable to sing during a live production of the musical. Why is it acceptable in this setting?”
A third wrote: “No. I don’t buy movie tickets to hear random strangers making noise in the theater. I buy movie tickets to watch the movie."
With another commenting: “By all means host DEDICATED Sing-a-long screenings.
“It's worked fine for Mamma Mia and certain special screenings of certain Disney classics in the past, but attempting to normalize this complete disregard for your fellow audience is part of the reason theaters are struggling.”

And another added: “I don't want to listen tone deaf people singing at the cinema. We wouldn't be able to hear the characters at all.”
For the fans that do want to sing along, they will only have to wait a few more weeks as the interactive sing-along screenings of the film are set to premiere on Christmas Day.
So, if you don’t want someone to throw their popcorn at you yelling for you to shut up, might be best to wait for these screenings.
