A Texas District Attorney pleaded with a judge to order NFL star Patrick Mahomes’ dad, Patrick Mahomes Sr., to wear an alcohol monitoring bracelet days after he was seen getting into an alleged argument during Super Bowl weekend, In Touch can exclusively report.
According to court documents obtained by In Touch, on Thursday, February 13, a District Attorney in Smith County, Texas, along with a community supervisor officer, asked that a condition be added to Patrick Sr.’s sentence.
The request comes days after Patrick Sr., 54, was seen getting into a verbal altercation with former MLB pitcher John Rocker in New Orleans during Super Bowl weekend.
Back in February 2024, TMZ reported that Patrick Sr. was arrested for driving while intoxicated for the third time or more.
In body cam footage from the arrest, Patrick Sr. can be heard telling an officer, “I’m supposed to be going to the Super Bowl to watch my son play football, and this is what we’re doing?”
The outlet said Patrick Sr. had been previously arrested on a DWI second or more charge in 2019 and was sentenced to 40 days in jail. Patrick Sr. was released on $100,000 bond following his 2024 arrest.
In August 2024, Patrick Sr. pleaded guilty to a felony driving while intoxicated charge.
At the time, his lawyer, Joseph D. Murphy, told TMZ, “Today, Mr. Mahomes entered a guilty plea in his case pursuant to a written plea agreement. Our client is now living a sober life, and we believe that the steps he has taken to better his life have helped us negotiate a plea recommendation for probation.”
ESPN reported that Patrick Sr. agreed to a five-year probation with “intense” supervision during the first 12 months.
If he violates the terms of his sentence within the first year, the judge said he could face ten years in prison. In addition, Patrick Sr. was ordered to complete 160 hours of community service, potentially enroll in a substance abuse evaluation, enroll in a DWI repeat offender program and attend Alcohol Anonymous classes. The judge ordered Patrick Sr. to serve 10 days in jail and suspended his license for a period of time. Patrick Sr. was also ordered to install an interlock device in his car, which requires him to blow into the device to check his blood alcohol content before the car will start.
In the recent motion, the District Attorney and community supervision officer wrote, “Patrick Mahomes … due to the defendant’s extensive travel outside of Smith County for sports events it’s requested the defendant have an additional portable alcohol monitoring device when he’s not using his vehicle.”
The motion asked that a provision be added to Patrick Sr. sentence reading, “At your own expense, immediately submit to the SCRAM Bracelet Alcohol Monitoring Program, and directed by your Supervision Officer and continue use of said device until released by the court, and do not attempt to remove, circumvent or tamper with the monitoring unit or any associated equipment and follow all rules and regulations of said monitoring program.
A judge has yet to rule on the request.
Aside from his legal issues, Patrick Sr.’s son and his Kansas City Chiefs teammates lost in the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles.
