One dad sprung quite the surprise on their infant daughter by getting his first haircut in six years.
Dominic Jackson, from San Jose, California, regularly shares videos to TikTok alongside his wife, Lauriane, under the handle @familyonthemap. It was there that he announced his plans for a first haircut since 2019 as he "needed a change."
A spokesperson for the couple told Newsweek: "His hair was getting in the way and he ended up putting it in a ponytail all the time. He felt this wasn't the purpose of having long hair and decided it was time to cut it."
Changing a hairstyle isn't something that goes unnoticed. One YouGov poll found that
more than half of Americans say "most" (20 percent) or at least "some" (36 percent) people notice their new hairdo.
Dominic decided to cut his hair the night before the family headed off on vacation while he was out doing errands. Lauriane had "no idea this was happening and was in complete shock" when she saw him return with short hair for the first time in ages.
Her reaction was captured on a video posted to the @familyonthemap TikTok channel. It was only matched by the response of their 10-month-old daughter, Capri.
"Capri had never seen her dad with short hair, so it was very new to her," they said.
In the video, Capri appears momentarily stunned. She clearly recognizes her dad but there's something decidedly different about him.
Some of those watching the clip were quick to pick up on Capri's adorable reaction. "The daughter just cracked me up like what the heck," one viewer wrote. "Baby was shocked LOL," another said with a third adding: "The looks on both of their faces [mom and baby] when you walked in was the same."
Others meanwhile were convinced that while Capri was surprised at the change, she was clearly a fan of her dad's new look. "I thought your beautiful daughter wouldn't recognize you and start crying, but she loved the cut as much as your wife," one said.
"It looks awesome not only does the wife approve, it's baby approved too," another said.
Given her age, Dominic and Lauriane suspect Capri was "not fully understanding what happened." Whatever the case they don't imagine he will be getting a haircut again anytime soon.
She's only 10 months old, so she could also not be fully understanding what happened.
"While Capri loves to see her dad with short hair, she misses being able to pull on his hair," they said. "She now has to do so with Mama's hair twice as much."
