Daisy May Cooper shared a heartbreaking confession after the death of her childhood pal Michael Sleggs.
The 33-year-old, who played Slugs in the BBC Three comedy series This Country, sadly died in July 2019 from heart failure, and had battled a series of health issues throughout his life, including a cancer diagnosis when he was a teenager.
Daisy and her brother and co-star Charlie Cooper were friends with Michael when they were children, and she reflected on his death in a new interview.
Daisy said Michael has been in “constant pain his entire life” and even walking “caused him pain”, and she was devastated when he was placed in palliative care because “he was terrified of dying”.
She told The Guardian that Michael called her just days later and described a paranormal experience that terrified her. Daisy said he “had a visitation from an angelic presence, which sat at the end of his bed and told him, ‘In seven days, you will have a new body at midnight.’”

She then revealed she had a ghostly presence visit her on the morning of Michael’s favourite local festival, which left her confused and yearning for more contact from her beloved childhood friend. “If that is you, Slugs, can you please be more specific? Write your name in lipstick on my mirror. I need to know,” she quipped.
Days before Michael died, he shared a message on Facebook that updated his fans on his condition, as he revealed he was in end-of-life care. “Hi friends, as a lot of you are probably aware I’ve spent a lot of time in and out of hospital over the past few months.
"This last time it was decided I was reaching the end of options so they’ve sent me home on palliative care to live out the remainder of my days at home. No specific time limit has been given but deterioration has been fairly rapid,” he wrote. “Anyway as you can imagine this isn’t the ideal way I wished things to go and my family are dealing with a lot of grief.”
Daisy has branched out into the supernatural in recent years, and appeared on the BBC podcast Uncanny, as she explained her house in the Cotswolds harbours the ghost of a highwayman, as well as other spooky apparitions. She also penned her new book, Hexy Bitch, which explores the occult and her paranormal experiences. “It’s isolating, because people think you’re mad. But it exists,” she said.
