Actor Damon Wayans Jr. appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show this Tuesday, October 29, alongside his father, and took the opportunity to share some anecdotes about when NBA legend Michael Jordan was his neighbor in the '90s.

Both father and son, named Damon Wayans, acted together for the first time in the CBS comedy series Poppa's House, which premiered on October 21, 2024. The cast also features Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson.

Hudson took the moment to ask the Wayans about their experience living next to Michael Jordan years ago. Jordan was their neighbor for a few months while filming Space Jam.

"When he shot Space Jam, he came and he was our next door neighbor for the summer," Damon Jr., explained.

They took advantage of their proximity to get to know Jordan better and form a nice friendship.

Michael never wore Jordans

Damon Jr. was a teenager when Jordan was his neighbor and mentioned to Hudson that his father would invite the basketball star over to eat snacks and chat.

"First of all, this dude came over way too much," he joked about Jordan. "I'm like, 'Bro, you got a movie to shoot or something?' He used to eat all my snacks." Damon Jr. said with a laugh.

During the months they spent together, the Wayans noticed that Michael didn't wear Jordan sneakers, the iconic line of shoes from the NBA legend associated with Nike.

"And he never wore Jordans," the Happy Endings star recalled, referencing Jordan's signature Nike sneakers. "He would just come over in, like, some crusty old Jesus sandals." Damon Jr. added.

It's curious that one of the most awarded and recognized athletes in sports history didn't use products from his own brand, especially at the height of his popularity.

Michael Jordan's 1984 Nike Air Ships sold for $1.47 million, making them the most expensive piece from the Jordan brand and one of the priciest sneakers in history.
