Dancing with the Stars couple quit show and explain why as four new stars join line-up

Dancing with the Stars couple Montel Hewson and Jillian Bromwich have quit the show after just one season.

The professional dancers joined the cast of the hit RTE series last year, with Montel partnering TikTok star Miriam Mullins and Jillian dancing with Mrs. Brown's Boys actor Rory Cowan.

Montel and Jillian, who are a couple both on and off the dance floor, made the joint decision to not return to Dancing with the Stars for the eighth season, which begins next month.

Taking to Instagram, they explained that they want to focus on their dance careers.

Montel said: "Hello everybody from Marbella, hope you're doing well. We just wanted to let everyone know what our situation is. We got a lot of messages from people.

"We didn't expect to have such a big impact on Dancing with the Stars. It was such a short lived moment, but we just wanted to come on and let people know our situation."

Jillian continued: "As you all probably know by now, we are not doing Dancing with the Stars this year. We made the decision for ourselves to focus on our competitive dance career, but we had so much fun last year and made so many memories, so many friends and we will be forever grateful.

"We felt in this moment from time that this was the best decision for us."

"We want to wish everybody on the cast in the upcoming season to have the best time of their lives. We know for sure we did," Montel added.

While Jillian signed off: "Sending all of our love and thanks so much for the support".

The news comes as Dancing with the Stars yesterday announced four new professional dancers have joined the show.

As well as Jillian and Montel leaving, Karen Byrne has swapped her pro dancer role for a spot on the judging panel. Meanwhile, fan favourite Kylee Vincent is taking time out after welcoming a baby in October.

New pros Maciej Zieba, Rebecca Scott, Daniela Roze and Alex Vladimirov are now part of the bill. They join returning dancers Laura Nolan, Denys Samson, Ervinas Merfeldas, Simone Arena, Stephen Vincent, Robert Rowinski and Salome Chachua.

Dancing with the Stars returns to RTE One and RTE Player in January.
