Darkest Disney fan theories – true villain, grim detail and kiss of death

2 hours ago 2

Disney is all colour and sparkle, but there is a dark side too. Or at least, some people think so.

We all know our Nemos and our Elsas pretty well, but some fans are convinced there is more to some of the tales that we all think.

Whether it’s a different way of looking at the story or hidden meanings, there is a wild theory floating around for many Disney favourites.

We have a look at some of them, as Frozen celebrates a milestone. The movie was unveiled in the UK on December 6, 2013, so it is about to celebrate its 11th anniversary.

The Frozen theory surrounds Sven and Kristoff

Kristoff’s coat is made from fur, and some Frozen fans reckon it could be reindeer fur. If it’s true, it would probably be a huge blow to his reindeer bestie Sven.

The idea was raised on Reddit, who said a close look at the coat seemed to reveal it was made of reindeer rather than wolf.

“He's dressed like one of the Sami people, so yeah,” someone else agreed. “Reindeer pelt is a very safe bet.”

However, the original poster went one step further, musing: “The ice harvesters must have killed Sven's mother, leaving a baby Sven for Kristoff to look after, and giving him the pelt to wear. This explains why Sven is so close to Kristoff too, and why Kristoff still wears the same pelt. The smell reminds Sven of his mum.” Hmm.

Cinderella

Cinderella

Was the fairy godmother Cinderella's mum?

Some people have a theory that Cinderella’s fairy godmother is actually her mum, appearing to her as a ghost. The theory comes with plenty of backstory, namely that Cinders’ stepmother killed her mum then married and killed her dad for his money.

But her mum manages to come back in guardian angel form, helping to get her to the ball and to Prince Charming and a better life.

Peter Pan

Peter Pan

Some people think Peter was the real baddie

Theorists have flipped Peter Pan on its head, suggesting that he was actually an evil kidnapper and that Captain Hook wasn’t the baddie, but a man trying to thwart Peter’s evil plans.

The theory gathered traction when a fan posted a reel on Facebook suggesting that Peter “was a deranged psychopath who tricked and trapped little kids in Neverland”, and that he killed the Lost Boys when they became adults.

A few flagged lines from JM Barrie’s original tale that seem to suggest Peter was a darker character before he was Disney-fied, including this snippet: “The boys on the island vary, of course, in numbers, according as they get killed and so on; and when they seem to be growing up, which is against the rules, Peter thins them out; but at this time there were six of them, counting the twins as two.“

The Little Mermaid

Theorists think there's a link between Ariel and Captain Hook

Captain Hook comes up in another theory, this time about The Little Mermaid. The idea is that Hook exists in the same timeframe as Ariel and co, and appears to stem from the fact that the mermaids in Peter Pan seem to be frightened of pirates.

Some have speculated that Hook was actually the person who killed off Ariel's mum Queen Athena. The 'evidence' includes that Athena's likeness may have been on the Captain Hook's ship and that the reason Ariel's dad was strict about her going onto the shore was that pirates took his wife.

Aladdin

Aladdin

Was Aladdin set in the past or the future?

There are fans who are positive that Aladdin isn't set in the past, but the future.

It seems they believe the sandy scenery could actually be a sign that it is set in a post-apocalyptic world.

Plus, the Genie appears to be as up to date as the next person, despite having been in the lamp for thousands of years, and references things in the twentieth century. So people think he must have been outside in the world that century, and that after his 10,000 years in the lamp he has been released into the future.

Snow White

Snow White

There is a dark theory around Snow White

There is a spooky theory surrounding Snow White, where fans reckon the prince is actually death in disguise.

It seems to have come from the first scene between Snow White and the Prince when she is near the well, and she seems to be afraid of him, sparking speculation that she may have sensed the spectre of death hanging over her.

Others suggest she died early in the film. "Is it possible that Snow White is dead and the prince wasn't an actual prince, rather a grim reaper?” one theorist posted on Reddit.

However, some think that when the Prince kissed Snow it was actually a kiss of death. “This character DIED and the rest of the movie is their dying dream!” said one person on Reddit.

Someone else noted: “At the end, the prince takes Snow White to a castle in the sky. That's heaven. She dead.”
