Darren Hayes has revealed he once shared a rather awkward exchange with Britney Spears at a party in New York back in 1999.
Appearing on KIIS FM's Kyle and Jackie O Show on Monday as he promoted his new book, Hayes, 52, recalled the story during a game where listeners had to guess the star.
For the story, he kept the star's name under wraps until finally revealing it was Spears.
"I was mortified!" he said with a laugh.

"I said, 'Hey, when people ask me if I'm a Britney or a Christina, I tell them I'm a Britney'. And she looked at me like I was absolutely crazy and went, 'Security!'"
At the start of the segment, the Savage Garden star said he hosted an afterparty that Spears and Timberlake were at after NSYNC played a show nearby.
"We have an after-show party. They have an after-show party, but guess what? Ours is better," he explained.
"All of them and their girlfriends decide to come to the Savage Garden after show party.
"Anyway, we're sitting there, and I sit down on the couch and I sit next to the girlfriend of a very famous person.

"And I say, 'Hey, when people ask me if I'm a fan of you or this other female performer, I always tell them, I'm a fan of you'.
"And this performer looks beyond me and gives this wave to their security to get me out of what she thinks is her after show party."
His security soon went up to them.

Hayes explains later she "apologised" to him and then introduced him to her boyfriend, who was Justin Timberlake.
"So, I sit there, and I think, 'Reset'," he said, but things soon got even more awkward.
"Then this older woman starts walking towards us with a two-minute noodle perm in her hair, and I go, 'Oh my God. Check out the two-minute no noodle perm'.

"And the person who tried to get me ejected from my own party says, 'That's my boyfriend's mother.'"
After that, Hayes said he left his own party.
"So, I then go, 'I'm just going to go and get a vodka coke. Bye'. And I leave my own party."
His book Unlovable is out now.
