Darren Hayes has explained why he no longer has a relationship with former Savage Garden bandmate Daniel Jones, years after the music duo split.
The musicians formed the beloved band in Brisbane in 1993 and quickly rose to success – but later went their separate ways.
Ahead of the release of his memoir Unlovable, Hayes has shared the truth about the band's split, including the "huge personal betrayal" he says he endured.

"When you read the book, you'll understand why I haven't had a relationship with [Jones], really, since he left the band," Hayes told Sarah Grynberg on A Life of Greatness
"Our falling out was entirely due to the fact that he told the world that the band break-up was the first he'd ever heard of it, which was not true.
"And then he never corrected that."
The singer said it took Jones a decade to admit he knew of the changes coming to the band, but it was "a decade too late, and I really suffered."
"It was a huge personal betrayal for me," Hayes continued.
"You know, I speak about it in the book as politely as I possibly can, because for the longest time, again, I think I just kept expecting him to one day just [to] sit down and just say the truth."

Hayes said he thought there were lots of reasons his bandmate didn't share the truth, adding that he gave him a "pass" at the time.
Celebrity feuds: The co-stars who didn't get along
"Three or four years later, when I was still being blamed for the band breaking up, I realised that I didn't want to have to keep pretending to be close to somebody who had not been very kind to me," he added.
"We don't have a relationship at all because of that."
The singer said the infamous splits between other bands like Fleetwood Mac and Oasis are a good example of why Savage Garden broke up.

"It's only because legacy is so important to me," he said.
"I hated to know that Stevie and Lindsey [from Fleetwood Mac] didn't get along because it ruined the fantasy and that taints the songs, and I still to this day feel very protective of the fan experience and fan memories of Savage Garden."
