Deadpool and Wolverine is full of superhero cameos - but they weren't easy to keep under wraps.
In order to avoid spoilers giving the game away before release, Disney had to deploy a special tactic: swapping the names of characters in the script with ones from Stranger Things.
A user on Marvel Studios' subreddit posted the script, which Disney made freely available as part of the awards push for Deadpool and Wolverine.
Instead of revealing the role of Jennifer Garner's Elektra, the script calls her Eleven, the character played by Millie Bobby Brown in Stranger Things.
Henry Cavill's Wolverine variant is also referred to as Hopper in the script, Blade is called Billy, and Johnny Storm is Jonathan Byers.
There's more to the unexpected crossover than just concealment, however. Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy has ties to Stranger Things, having served as executive producer on the Netflix original show, as well as a director of numerous episodes.
Levy addressed the script reveal on Twitter, writing "True. For a brief while, my worlds collided."
The trickery paid off. Deadpool and Wolverine soared to $1.34 billion at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time and the second-highest-grossing film of 2024.
