"I haven't played meaningful football in a couple of years," Hopkins said.
The wide receiver was traded from the Tennessee Titans to the undefeated Chiefs on Wednesday.
Hopkins went from a team that is last in its division to the best team in the NFL. His chances of winning a Super Bowl shot up immensely the moment the news broke.
"It means a lot," he continued. "It takes your game to a different level. It take your focus, your drive knowing that you're playing for something. It takes your game to a different level. I haven't played meaningful football in a couple years since we probably started 8-0 in Arizona. So it takes your game to a different level."
Hopkins is a good fit in Kansas City as the team has lost several offensive weapons because of injuries. Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice have been sidelined for the season. Only rookie Xavier Worthy and JuJu Smith-Schuster are the remaining high-level receivers.
Patrick Mahomes has had to play hero-ball for the last six games, but with a receiver like Hopkins, the offense could start to elevate its level of play.
Hopkins hasn't played with a top tier quarterback since he was teammates with Kyler Murray in Arizona. The Cardinals parted ways with the receiver after miss almost half of the games in his final two seasons with the team.
Hopkins then landed with the Titans in 2023. Despite being a 1,000 yard receiver, he was overshadowed by pass-catchers on successful teams. Two years later, Hopkins has a legitimate chance at winning a ring.
The 32-year-old took the time to express his gratitude to Titans general manager Ran Carthon.
"I've got to thank Ran [Carthon] and his staff for trading me to a contender, first of all, because those guys could've traded me anywhere,"
Now Hopkins will run routes for the best quarterback in the league. Kansas City has welcomed the receiver with open arms as Chiefs head coach Andy Reid revealed Hopkins could don the red and white by the weekend.
"Well, it could be this weekend. We'll see how he [picks it up]," Reid said. "We've got to get him on the practice field. Why wait, right? If he can, without putting him in a bad position."
With the arrival of Hopkins, the 6-0 Chiefs just got that much better. Watch out NFL, a three-peat could be coming.
