Another haunting moment from the Delphi Murders trial. We knew this was going to be rough, but this just reaches out and strikes the soul.
We’ve already heard about how shocked the jury was to see the horrific crime scene and autopsy photos. Well, WRTV reported about another piece of evidence on Tuesday that was more emotional in its own way — the video.
Those familiar with the case will know 14-year-old Liberty “Libby” German was filming with her phone on the day she and best friend Abigail “Abby” Williams, 13, were killed while walking around Indiana’s Delphi Historic Trails. Her final video, taken on 2:15 p.m. on February 13, 2017, was shown to the court on Day 4 of the trial. And it was more affecting than maybe anyone expected.

In the near 40-second clip, Libby can be seen filming herself and Abby as they walk on the Monon High Bridge. First there’s no one behind Abby… but after a moment when Libby turns the camera back to her, there’s suddenly a man behind her, walking towards them. Terrifying.
The person in the video has been dubbed “The Bridge Man”. A screenshot of the man was shared by the Indiana State Police years ago, in the hopes he would be identified. The Bridge Man is now believed to be defendant Richard Allen, who is currently on trial for the murders.
The most emotional moment came toward the end of the video when a girl’s voice, thought to be Libby’s, spoke. The moment the voice was heard, per WRTV, Libby’s mother broke into tears. It seems pretty clear she was struck by hearing her daughter’s voice again, all these years later. It’s unclear if she had ever seen the video before or how long ago.
What the voice said was, per reporters who watched the single showing of the video:
“There’s no path. The trail ends here so we have to go down here?”
“There’s no path.” Like they were trapped with The Bridge Man coming up behind them? That’s so upsetting. Another voice was then heard, which reporters say was clearly that of a man. And the video ended. Considering what we now know happened next, it’s a truly chilling moment.
We’ll let you know as we hear more from this difficult trial.
