Demi Moore shared some behind-the-scenes photos that shocked her fans — at least the ones who haven't yet seen The Substance.
As a Halloween treat, Moore, 61, took to her social media on Thursday, October 31, to post some photos in prosthetics from the Mubi film. "Spoiler alert 🚨 Been holding onto these gems from @trythesubstance and today feels like an appropriate day to share them. Happy Halloween from Elisabeth Sparkle 🧪 THE SUBSTANCE is officially streaming today on @mubi!," Moore wrote alongside a carousel of photos.
The Ghost star looked unrecognizable in the first image, with wrinkled prosthetics making her look much older than she actually is. She also sported a pair of glasses, and rather than her long, black locks, her head appeared bald with a few scraggly grey hairs hanging off in places. The second image was even more dramatic, giving a full-body look at the aged prosthetics.
Moore is hunched over in the image, looking directly at the camera in an angle meant to really showcase the elderly skin suit she is wearing. In a third photo, the mom of three stood back so the camera could capture her head-to-toe transformation. Despite the scary look, it was clearly Moore in the picture, as she can be seen cradling her beloved Chihuahua, Pilaf.
The final image in the carousel is really primed for Halloween, as it showed Moore's aged face beaten and bloody. Fans of The Substance — the boundary-pushing indie horror from writer/director Coralie Fargeat — will recognize this look from the bloody climax of the film.
The movie follows formerly beloved celebrity Elisabeth Sparkles (Moore) as she struggles with her natural aging affecting her status in Hollywood. In a desperate attempt to not lose all that she has built, Elisabeth decides to take a risky drug that promises to temporarily create a "younger, better version" of herself.
Fans quickly took to the comments to react to the looks, which many dubbed, "Iconic." Viral artist blcksmth wished the St. Elmo's Fire star a Happy Halloween while comparing her look to a memorable Six Flags ad from the 2000s. "This exists at the intersection of Suspiria and the Six Flags Dancing Guy," he wrote.
Others couldn't help but post quotes from the polarizing film, like, "The balance hasn't been respected!!!" and "Has...there been a...slight misuse of the substance? 🥹🙃 @demimoore." Her post received love from other celebrities, like Michelle Pfeiffer, Jaimie Alexander, and even her daughter, Tallulah Willis, who wrote, "I'm absolutely loosing my mind."
Some commenters wondered if the getup had scared Moore's famous sidekick, Pilaf. "😂did pilaf still know it was you !?" they asked.
The Substance is streaming now on Mubi.
