The Arizona Diamondbacks are facing quite a difficult offseason this winter. As always, the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Francisco Giants are all expected to be big-time buyers in the free agency market, which will only make Arizona's job harder.
Secondly, Arizona is watching one of its best players, Christian Walker, enter free agency where he's being met with attention and interest from some of the league's biggest markets.
What does this mean for the Diamondbacks?
It means they face two options.
The first one is they can try to get in a bidding war with teams like the New York Yankees and New York Mets to bring Walker back to Arizona, but outbidding those teams is going to be quite difficult. It can be done, so don't expect Arizona to give up easily.
But the most obvious backup plan is staring them right in the face, begging for a return to the Diamondbacks.
If the Diamondbacks miss out on Walker, why not re-sign future Hall of Famer and Diamondbacks legend Paul Goldschmidt to a one-year deal?
Goldschmidt spent the first eight years of his big league career with the Diamondbacks. He slugged 209 home runs and registered 710 RBIs with the team. While in Arizona, Goldschmidt won three Gold Gloves, four Silver Sluggers and was named to six All-Star Games.
He was a legend with the team and a reunion feels right here. The future Hall of Famer is 37 years old and on the last leg of his playing career, but he's still a productive player that Arizona could use if it loses Walker.
Bring Goldy home, Arizona.
