Dick Van Dyke didn't hold back when asked to share his thoughts on Donald Trump's election win — commenting on his own mortality in the process.
On Tuesday, November 12, exactly one week after Trump was elected as the next president of the United States, the 98-year-old actor was spotted out with his wife, Arlene Silver. He was asked by paparazzi about his thoughts on the country's future.
In a video obtained by Daily Mail, the photographer asked the six-time Emmy Award winner, "Does the future look bright for America?"
The Mary Poppins star who initially had trouble hearing the question until Silver, 52, repeated it, responded, "I hope you're right."
The photographer then asked, more specifically,"Do you think Donald Trump is capable of making America great again?"
The Bye Bye Birdie actor, who will turn 99 next month, smiled and replied, "Fortunately, I won't be around to experience the four years."
The former Dick Van Dyke Show star has been vocal about his political beliefs in the past. Earlier this month, he took to YouTube to endorse Democratic candidate Kamala Harris for president.
In the three-minute black-and-white video, Van Dyke read an excerpt from a speech he delivered 50 years ago at a 1964 civil rights event with Martin Luther King Jr.
"I think it means as much today, if not more, than it did then," the Broadway legend said of his remarks, in which he denounced hatred and prejudice. While acknowledging that progress has been made since he first delivered the speech, it's still "not so much as Martin Luther [King] dreamed of, but it's a start."
While he did not name Harris, 60, in the clip, the video was titled "VOTE!! @kamalaharris."
