Despite celebrating his 99th birthday earlier in the month, Hollywood icon Dick Van Dyke has shown no signs of slowing down as he shared his latest career aspirations.

The Mary Poppins actor is reportedly "in talks" with a huge movie studio for an upcoming role and is hoping to "get to work" over the next 12 months.

Speaking to NBCLA, he admitted: "I'd like to get a job.. I can play somebody's grandfather on a sitcom or something, just to keep busy. And I'm not expensive."

To which his wife Arlene replied: "Yes you are!"

NBCLA reporter Karma Dickerson claimed that Van Dyke revealed he had been talking "with a major studio and a prominent director, so we may well be seeing his name in lights again very soon".

Sitting alongside his great-granddaughter Kyla, Van Dyke quipped: "Tomorrow I will start my first day of my 100th year.

"Can you believe that? It's pretty extraordinary. I can't get my mind around 99 because I don't feel it. I mean, I don't feel great, but I don't feel 99!"

The Emmy-award-winning actor marked the milestone with an intimate family dinner alongside Arlene, 53, who he married in 2012.

His birthday came just days after he was forced to evacuate his $8 million home due to a fast-moving wildfire sweeping through parts of Malibu.

The Chitty Chitty Bang Bang actor issued an update about their whereabouts on Facebook, writing: "Arlene and I have safely evacuated with our animals except for Bobo escaped as we were leaving.

"We're praying he'll be ok and that our community in Serra Retreat will survive these terrible fires."

Thankfully, when they were able to return two days later, Bobo was there.

"There was so much interest in his disappearance that Animal Control was called in to assist. But, thankfully he was easy to find and not harmed," Van Dyke said.

Joking to NBCLA, he added: "I tried to light my 99 candles and set Malibu on fire."

The entertainer also shared how his neighbors helped him to escape, saying: "I suddenly just ran out of gas. I couldn't stand up, and two guys picked me up and put me in the car."
