The legal team for Sean “Diddy” Combs requested that the disgraced music mogul be allowed to be placed under house arrest at his Upper East Side apartment in New York City, along with a $50 million bond.
Diddy’s attorneys suggested that one security guard could be stationed downstairs at the building where the apartment is located, along with two additional security guards stationed inside the three-bedroom abode itself, according to a report from Us Weekly published on Friday, November 22. The outlet also stated that the “Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems” rapper, 55, would not have access to the internet or telephone and he would only communicate with his counsel. All calls would be arranged through the approved security team.
Diddy’s lawyers said that they believed that allowing him to be under house arrest at his apartment would be “substantially more restrictive” than where he is currently housed at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center. Along with not having access to the internet or phone, Diddy would not be allowed to have visitors unless they were his attorneys. The lawyers suggested that visits with his family would be permitted if they were approved before the trial. Diddy’s legal team argued that the Grammy Award winner should be able to prepare for his upcoming trial due to “new evidence and circumstances.”
A decision on whether Diddy will be released on bail is expected to come next week, according to Us Weekly.
Diddy’s counsel had first requested that the Bad Boy Records founder be allowed to be placed under house arrest at his home on the private island, Star Island, in Florida. The home, which was one of Diddy’s properties that were raided by Homeland Security Agents in March, only has one way on and off the island. There is a dock, but the lawyers clarified that the Get Him to the Greek actor would not have access to a boat while there.
The request was immediately shot down by U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian who said, “That is not going to work.”
Diddy’s legal team has made a total of four requests for bail since his arrest on September 16. He was hit with a slew of charges, including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion. The indictment accused Diddy of a consistent and widespread pattern of mistreatment toward women, including verbal, physical and sexual abuse.
“To do so, [Diddy] relied on the employees, resources and influence of the multi-faceted business empire that he led and controlled — creating a criminal enterprise whose members and associates engaged in, and attempted to engage in, among other crimes, sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery and obstruction of justice.”
Diddy pleaded not guilty to all charges and his attorney Marc Agnifilo gave a statement to the media the day following the rapper’s arrest.
“We are disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution of Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office,” Agnifilo told the outlet. “Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man, and proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children and working to uplift the Black community.”
