Diddy‘s lawyers are trying yet another tactic to spring him from jail.
As we’ve been reporting, music mogul Sean Combs is stuck sitting in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn as he awaits his trial next May. The rap mogul is facing charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. So if he does get convicted he may end up spending the rest of his life in prison!
But his overwhelming focus? Bail. Ever since his September indictment on those charges, he’s been denied bail again and again. And in a series of failed attempts to spring the mogul before trial, his lawyers have tried all kinds of crazy s**t. But this new tactic might take the cake!!

On Thursday, People reported the existence of a fresh court filing submitted by attorney Marc Agnifilo and others on Diddy’s legal team. In these new papers logged at the federal courthouse in NYC, the rapper’s lawyers claim the government is SPYING on Puffy as he sits in jail! Seriously! They lay it all out there plain as day:
“The evidence shows the government is using Mr. Combs’ detention to spy on him and invade his confidential communications with his counsel.”
What?! Spying?? Seriously?!
As you may recall, last month, Diddy’s lawyers argued that a federal investigator snapped a photo of some of the celeb’s handwritten notes during a jail cell search and then sent the imagine to prosecutors. At the time, his lawyers went absolutely ballistic over that alleged tactic, which they called a “blatant violation” of Diddy’s right to defend himself against his accusers in court.

Here in this new court filing, per the mag, the A-lister’s legal team is circling back to that prior accusation while also calling the supposed spying “outrageous government conduct.” Referencing the Bad Boy Records founder’s push for a fair trial and a robust defense, Agnifilo’s crew argued that the feds’ alleged note-stealing and spying are both beyond the pale:
“Mr. Combs cannot possibly receive a fair trial if he is not permitted to confer privately and confidentially with his counsel and others working at their direction, and to take and keep notes of his trial preparation.”
Now, Diddy did earn a minor win after the note-stealing fiasco last month. Presiding judge Arun Subramanian ruled during a bail hearing at the time that he would not consider any evidence obtained in November’s MDC Brooklyn jail cell sweep. But of course, Judge Subramanian also wrote in the most recent bail hearing decision that Diddy still poses a “serious risk of witness tampering,” and ordered the star to remain behind bars. Womp, womp.
What do U make of these new spying allegations, tho, Perezcious readers?! Can’t say Diddy’s lawyers aren’t trying their damnedest to spring their client ahead of trial — that’s for sure. This isn’t the first time they’ve accused the feds of shady pre-trial behavior, either. But will this one stick?? And if he does get out, do you think he’ll tamper with witnesses? Or even just fly to a private island somewhere??
