New year, new streaming price hikes.
Warner Bros. Discovery is the first media company to raise the price of a streaming service in 2025, hiking the cost of Discovery+ by $1 to $5.99 for the ad-supported plan and $9.99 for the ad-free plan.
The price hike is effective immediately for new subscribers, with existing D+ subscribers getting a 30 day advance notice.
Discovery+ is WBD’s more niche streaming service, living alongside the more comprehensive Max service, which bundles Discovery content with HBO and other premium programming. The company does not break out how many subscribers each service has, but D+ is significantly smaller than Max, though executives have long noted that it has also been profitable for some time.
Discovery+ is home to programming like the 90 Day franchise, My 600-lb Life, Worst Cooks in America Celebrity Edition: Heroes vs. Villains (which debuted Jan. 5), and The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: The Final Chapter (which debuted Jan. 6).
WBD last raised prices for its ad-free tier of Discovery+ back in 2023, and hiked the monthly cost of Max’s ad-free tier last year, partly to direct consumers to its less-expensive ad-supported option.
Disney+, Peacock, and Hulu also hiked prices last year.
