Nicole Kidman has revealed that she often wakes up in tears during the night.
The Oscar-winning actress, now 57, has opened up about becoming "more open to emotions" as she navigates through her 50s – a period where she's not only raising her children but also mourning the loss of both her parents.
In the Men of the Year 2024 edition of British GQ, Nicole gets candid: "I consider myself open to emotions ... More so now. Even more so ... " Speaking of the striking impact life's trials and milestones have on her, she says, "Mortality. Connection. Life coming and hitting you. And loss of parents and raising children and marriage and all of the things that go into making you a fully sentient human."

She admits to living life deeply and emotively, reflecting: "I’m in all of those places. So life is, whew. It’s definitely a journey. And it hits you as you get older how it’s a wake up at 3am crying and gasping kind of thing. If you’re in it and not numbing yourself to it. And I’m in it. Fully in it."
Nicole's personal losses have been profound; her father Antony died aged 75 in 2014, and her mother Janelle recently passed away in September - just shortly after Nicole's interview with GQ. She further expresses the complexity of dealing with mortality when having a family: "There’s the mortality aspect of life which, when you start to deal with that, it’s very heavy. When you’re raising children you’re like, I gotta stay here. I wanna see all of this. It’s devastating and beautiful and extraordinary."
Nicole opened up about the tough times she faced when her father passed away, noting that her daughters Sunday and Faith were just tots at the time. She admitted to a magazine that she had to "push through" her sorrow for their sake, which surprisingly aided in her recovery.
Nicole also spoke about how she pours all her feelings into her performances, candidly sharing the toll it takes on her health, including sleepless nights and physical reactions like sickness and shivering. She confessed: "I get sick or I get disturbed. It penetrates my dreams, I don’t sleep well, I shake, I have all sorts of different physical manifestations from it."
