A video proving you're never too old to prank your parents has gone viral on TikTok, racking up 4.8 million views.
Sydney Brandt, 30, and her sister Rachel, 28, decided to call their parents Kristin, 56, and Kevin, 59, from their respective phones. But they had no intention of speaking to them.
Instead, they placed the iPhones next to each other and put the calls on loudspeaker – confusing the recipients, who believed they had somehow called each other.
Newsweek spoke to Brandt, from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, about the hilarious call she recorded and shared online (@sydneynbrandt) on December 28. It has since received over 312,000 likes.
Kristin is described as "so serious and worried" in the caption as she sounds bamboozled by the mishap, whereas Kevin, who has a blasé approach, seems to know something is fishy.
He can be heard saying, "There's something being scrambled here."
Brandt, a technical director, told Newsweek: "Our mom was concerned when the whole thing happened, so naturally she was pretty mad when she found out what we did.
"Meanwhile, our dad was out at a bar enjoying his Friday night, so he thought it was funny."
Brandt has since shared another video of her parents, who have been divorced for 17 years, whom she describes as "amicable."
"It hasn't always been like this, but the more events they both had to be at together for my sister and me, the more comfortable things got," she told Newsweek.
During the new video, Kristin stated that she was worried as her daughters have given her reason to be concerned in the past.
Kevin said he thought they were being scammed by AI and reaffirmed that his kids were unable to "dupe" him.
Nonetheless, both parents were able to see the funny side since, making the sisters' prank a success.
"We were laughing a good bit during the prank," Brandt said. "We're both surprised that they couldn't hear us!"
They aren't the only ones who are amused–judging by the comments section.
"'I called Sydney's phone,' meanwhile neither of them called anyone," pointed out one user, and another wrote: "They both hung up thinking, 'This is exactly why we got divorced.'"
Many users were also impressed with the way the parents speak to one another.
"A+ communication. Shocked it didn't work out," said a third commenter, and a fourth wrote, "Omg your divorced parents communicate so kindly."
A fifth user said: "My parents would've fought about this for decades."
