Cam’ron and Jim Jones recently added another chapter in the up-and-down history of Dipset. DJ Envy recently shared his perspective on a confrontation between Capo and Maino that Killa Cam alluded to on It Is What It Is.
“I remember that night,” The Breakfast Club host said. “We’re all in the club and Maino was the bad boy back in the day, like running around and threatening everybody. So Maino had three [people with him]. Jim came in the club and must have had about 15 dudes with him. And when he walked down the stairs, the first thing Maino did was turn around and said, ‘Yo, everybody tuck your chains in.'”
Envy continued, recalling how Jones approached the “All The Above” rapper, who reacted by pretending he had a gun in his possession. “When he fake pulled out like he had a gun, the club scattered,” he continued. “Everybody cleared out. I was surprised because I know we all went through the metal detectors. I was like, ‘Yo, how did you sneak in a gun?’ [Maino] was like, ‘I lied. I was just bluffing.’ But that really happened. When Jim ran up on Maino, that absolutely, positively happened.”
Cam’ron’s rant about Jim Jones and Maino was intended to show how his Diplomats comrade had inconsistencies in whom he resolved issues with and who he maintained grudges with. “He tried to press Maino ’cause Maino first came out with a little record where he said a ni**a’s name,” Cam said when telling the story on It Is What It Is.
“So Jim went to see Maino one day and was like, ‘Yo, wassup with all that saying my name?’ Maino said, ‘Who the f**k you talking to?! Oh, you think I’m one of them ni**as? You out your motherf**king mind!’ Now they’re the Lobby Boyz,” Cam continued. “Every ni**a that do something to put pressure on you, you sit there and work it out. But when ni**as got genuine heart for you and don’t put hands on you, then you can keep going on and on. That’s the pattern.”
The Harlem rappers’ latest tension was fueled by the “We Fly High” artist’s recent interview with Justin LaBoy. He claimed that he grew up with his group members and watched Ma$e “sh*t” on Cam after he got signed to Bad Boy. Check out the full rant, plus Jones’ interview with LaBoy below.
