The Los Angeles Dodgers and Minnesota Twins are in agreement on a trade that will send catcher Diego Cartaya to the Twins.
The Dodgers surprised many by designating Cartaya for assignment in order to make room for newly signed infielder Hyeseong Kim on their 40-man roster last week. Now, Cartaya is headed to the Twins for 20-year-old pitcher Jose Vasquez, a right-hander who's spent the last two seasons pitching in the Dominican Summer League.
A consensus Top-100 prospect two years ago, Cartaya saw his stock fall after a poor 2024 season split between the Dodgers' Double-A and Triple-A affiliates.
In 46 games at Double-A Tulsa last season, Cartaya slashed .236/.354/.379. He slugged five home runs and drove in another 27 while scoring 27 runs as well.
In 49 games at Triple-A Oklahoma City, Cartaya slashed .208/.293/.350. He hit six home runs, drove in 25 runs, and scored 24.
