Dog's Injuries So Severe Rescuers Faced Something 'Never Been Asked Before'

A North Carolina-based animal rescue group has left people in tears after sharing the story of a dog whose life hung in the balance.

Posted by @acrewofrescues, the video, which shared the dramatic story of Boden the dog, has been viewed over 260,000 times.

When Boden's doghouse caught fire with him chained to it, he was unable to escape the flames, leaving him with injuries so severe that rescuers were initially called, not to save him, but to comfort him in case he passed away.

In the video, the group explained: "We were asked to be on call for a dog in critical condition, but not for what you'd expect. It wasn't another foster request or to help a dog recovering from surgeries.

"This was something we'd never been asked before. If Boden couldn't make it through the night, they wanted someone to be there with him, to let his last moments be surrounded by people who loved him like family."

Most rescues wouldn’t ask us to be on call to go comfort a dog who might succumb to their injuries so they may pass in the arms of strangers who love them, but @forgotten_now_family_rescue isn’t most rescues. They consider every dog family from the moment they say yes to them and that included Boden. Fortunately, rather than having to go meet him to say goodbye, Boden showed us he wasn’t ready to go. So we met him to transport him to get the life saving care he needs. He is now receiving that medical attention, but his fight and the bills that come with it are far from over. HOW YOU CAN HELP: Foster: Not every need is for a medical foster or a dog recovering from surgery or sickness. I promise you that the more difficult cases, people like us will take on. Sign up to foster other dogs to help make room for the ones who need it even more. Expenses are covered, you have a team willing to help you with anything, and you’re saving lives. Donate: Boden’s expenses alone will be over $15,000. The rescue is also paying for many other dogs, including our current foster Frankie and they funded the needed surgery for our foster fail, Sadie. They are in dire need of any cent you can spare. Share: If you can’t foster, volunteer, or donate, that’s okay. But can you share? Share Boden’s story. Share others stories. Social media can be so powerful with helping find these dogs the exposure they deserve. It costs you nothing and means everything to them ♥️

But Boden had other plans. Defying the odds, he fought to stay alive, giving the rescue team a new mission: transporting him to a specialty hospital for life-saving care.

The rescue wrote in the video's caption: "Most rescues wouldn't ask us to be on call to go comfort a dog who might succumb to their injuries so they may pass in the arms of strangers who love them, but @forgotten_now_family_rescue isn't most rescues.

"They consider every dog family from the moment they say yes to them, and that included Boden."

The story left people online heartbroken and many shared their reactions in the comments.

While TikToker Leah Shamblen said: "I cannot imagine the absolute terror this would have been for this poor baby. His wounds may heal, but the emotional toll this has to have had is devastating."

"Omg poor little baby, I couldn't imagine what he's feeling. Thank you so so much for putting the fight in for his life. I hope he keeps fighting," said user @CoCo.

As Boden continues his journey to recovery, his story has both left people in tears, and grateful for the rescue team's efforts to help him and other dogs in need.
