A TikTok video of a dog named Kevin enjoying a wildlife documentary has left the internet in hysterics.
The footage, shared last week to the social media platform by @doggleboxkevin, captures Kevin fully immersed in an intense scene where hyenas chase buffalos. The action sends the pup into a frenzy, causing him to bark excitedly and jump up and down on his seat.
His owner, Sam Spencer, 31, told Newsweek that the 8-year-old canine has always loved watching TV and will happily sit in front of the screen for around two hours.
"He is quite obsessed at the moment and will even ask for the TV to be turned on by barking," she said. "A proper Gen Z dog."
Spencer, a TV producer from Bristol, England, explained that the Norfolk terrier isn't afraid to vocalize how he feels about a program—especially if it is sports-related.
"He will watch most shows, but he doesn't like sports that much, so he will ask to change the channel by barking if there's too much football on," she told Newsweek. "But other than that, he will happily sit and watch a program, and it seems to keep him occupied, which makes my life easier if I'm working from home! His current favorite show is about big cats."
According to a study earlier this year conducted by researchers from the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM), dogs do indeed like watching TV especially if it involves other animals.
The study, published in the journal Applied Animal Behaviour Science, surveyed dog owners to understand how and why dogs engage with screen content. Data collected from 1,246 respondents, mainly from the United States, revealed that most dogs (86 percent) watched video content, often showing excitement by approaching the screen (78 percent) or vocalizing (76 percent).
Movement on screens were also highlights as a strong motivator for screen attention in dogs which explains why Kevin could barely contain his excitement.
This is most definitely the case for Kevin, who can barely sit still while watching Our Planet—a groundbreaking Netflix original documentary series narrated by Sir David Attenborough.
