Doireann Garrihy spills the beans on her upcoming wedding, saying she's nervous and excited

Doireann Garrihy has lifted the lid on her upcoming wedding, saying she and her fiancé Mark Mehigan have set clear boundaries with their families.

She admitted that they have been advised to remember it is their day rather than taking on everyone else’s opinions before walking down the aisle.

Ahead of their private, the podcast host is feeling "nervous and excited" and the fact she is getting married doesn't feel real to her.

Doireann said: “We are being really good at boundaries – because people can stick the oar in, Carl!

"This is our day and we want to be able to look back and say, ‘we did it our way’. That rhymed, didn’t mean it, sounded beautiful, like a little poem [laughs]."

The Dancing with the Stars co-presenter added: "I am equal parts nervous and excited. I still can’t believe I’m a bride. I think until you go on your hen it doesn’t sink in.”

Doireann left 2fm Breakfast in a shock move back in May and she said her relationship with her on air colleagues Carl Mullan and Donncha O'Callaghan was very real.

She told Carl Mullan on his Phone Truths podcast: “You couldn’t fake that, and not at that hour of the morning.

"It’s just so lovely that it is a period of time that finished in the loveliest way.

"And let’s put it out there, that so rarely happens in radio or TV or this industry. More often than not there is some sort of falling out and there’s just been nothing but love.”

Doireann also revealed what her phone has taught her and how she has developed a thick skin over time.

She said: “I think it’s taught me a lot about myself, particularly the social media stuff.

"I am a lot stronger as a result of what I do with my phone, in terms of social media and what I put out there. I think I have learned patience and the building a thick skin is a massive one.

"I think it’s taken a long time to actually truly feel like I have a thicker skin because of what I do online and I am grateful for that.

"It is really hard, but much like anything you learn in life usually you have to have gone through something hard in order to learn it.

"There’s been times I have wanted to throw the phone out the window and never go on it again because people can be cruel, but it really is a reflection of them rather than you.”
